Patrick and I reviewed adding with a number line. His addition fluency has improved tremendously! He is also doing an excellent job monitoring when he needs to use a strategy or not. We played "Take the Card", a math game to improve addition fluency through ten. Patrick won! He really seemed to enjoy the game. I gave him 5 addition problems with a number line to complete independently, which he completed 100%. It was up to him if he wanted to use the number line or not.

Student Interest Inventory/Interview completed in order to ascertain Patrick's interests. Patrick determined that he wants to research specific dog breeds. We planned out future sessions by creating a list of breeds he is interested in and we discussed where we will find information: books, the internet, and apps on tablets. Language Arts elements are/will be woven into each session, including reading, spelling, grammar, and simple paragraph writing.

Today Patrick did a wonderful job in all of his classes. He finished three modules in keyboarding. Patrick scored a 75%, 84% and 88% accuracy rate, accordingly. Patrick began a new sentence by sentence activity in his V/V program. We had a visitor who was interested in seeing this program in action, and he was able to display this activity very well. I was extremely proud of him (as usual), and our visitor expressed, also, how helpful he was in demonstrating what he does in his L_B class. He provided great detail and incorporated all of the 12 structure words, when describing the images he had created from the passage. Patrick continued in his FF program.

Today I tested Patrick on a Level C. Level C is his instructional level. Patrick has difficulty decoding words, but demonstrates good comprehension:). I also finished testing him on the first 40 Dolch Sight Words. The first 5 sight words he needs to master are find, not, away, funny and big. I will work on these sight words with Patrick in addition to beginning short vowel phonics instruction in isolation and reading.

We practiced using 2 more strategies today: 1) make a model or picture 2)Use a number line. Patrick solved problems on the white board using various strategies.

Patrick had a really good class today. We worked on getting his hand in proper position so that there are no dead or muffled notes in his chords. I was really happy to get a note from his mom on his practice journal sheet that he had been practicing at home. At home practice will make all the difference in his development.
