Patrick and I read Ch. 2 in his social studies: characteristics about an urban community (major city) and what it's like living there. We looked at photographs online and watched short live clips of the busyness. He illustrated an urban community in his workbook.
Patrick completed lesson 8.6; congruence. He observed a shape on a dot graph and recreated it on a dot graph based on the numbers of dots long and tall it was. The tracking was difficult for him again in this setting, where he would touch and count. He improved with repetition and grasped the concept.
Patrick played Hangman Jr. to practice spelling his short e words of the week. He is learning this week that short e can also have the -ea spelling pattern, as in bread. While deciding if his chosen word was a 4, 5, or 6 letter word, I noticed the numbers of letter tiles he used in the game, didn't match up with the amount of letters in the word. While he counts, his tracking isn't always accurate. He either counts faster than his pointing speed or vice versa. He loved the game and was very engaged and motivated to spell and play. He read The Red Hat and completed a graphic organizer containing the characters, setting, and main events. It took a very long time for him to record a sentence for the event category. His writing pace and formation needs strengthening. I noticed he often write an -a in place of o, b/d, h/r, etc.
Patrick continued his FF program by completing 2 modules. You will receive an update at the end of the week with further details. In LB, Patrick worked on rereading a story and answering comprehension questions. He did not get as much done as usual, and needed a lot of coaxing to complete his work. This was his last class of the day, and despite him being exhausted he was able to complete most questions accurately. We all occasionally have these days:)
Patrick did well typing in 5 different modules. His arms get tired quickly, as he tends to rest his arms on the keyboard or desk. This program will help to build his stamina more, as the other gave more breaks in between lessons. He always types better when reminded to maintain good posture. He is doing a great job and remains patient, while improving his keyboarding skills. I am very proud of him.
Patrick completed one module in FF and beat his high score in Sky Gym. He also read a story in in his LB workbook about a snake. He was able to listen, visualize, and then verbalize the story. He answered some questions pertaining to his visualization and discussed the vocabulary words from the passage.
