We did more research on his term paper by looking at international watch companies and Japanese unions. We discussed the importance of sticking with the franchise formulas and ways franchisors can oust franchisees who don't.
We worked on his discussion on human resource strategies and outsourcing for his term paper. This included researching Dunkin' Donuts' HR strategies and descriptions of international executives. The book rendered the concepts of ethnocentric (home country) and polycentric (host country) staffing. Brandon chose to have a mix of both since the franchisees, managers, and staff will all be from the host country to take into account cultural and language differences.
We completed and scanned the homework for this week, and started working on next week's homework. We are planning to go ahead of the class so that we can focus on the final exam when his teacher posts it and complete it early so that he can start his vacation!
We worked on the term paper including watching two videos on information sources for countries: The CIA World Fact Book and The Economist Online. We found useful facts for Japan like the population of the country and in the largest cities. From there we were able to calculate the number of stores to open and where.
We worked on his term paper. We looked at two assigned videos on human resource outsourcing. Since the franchisees and managers will all be Japanese, they should be familiar with the HR laws and local customs. The paper will be outlined as follows: Executive Summary, Company Background, Country Background, Entry Strategies, Marketing and R&D, Opportunities and Challenges, Evaluation and Conclusions, References, and Exhibits.
