We worked on the discussion post for this week. We came up with a pricing and marketing strategy for miracle wrinkle cream. Brandon was very tired today and seemed to be dragging. He definitely was not into doing work today.
Today we worked on the quiz for the first 40 minutes of the class. Brandon did very well, and I believe he only missed 1 out of 20 questions. I tried to get him to do some reading or even go through the lecture powerpoint first, but he prefers the "open-book-look-it-up-as-it-come approach." I'm worried this will hurt him down the road. We then looked for articles for his article review, I found 5 suggestions, but he turned them all down and seemed to drag his feet for the last twenty minutes.
We started the new business class this week, and there is considerably more work than the last class. Brandon is going to have to stay focused and might even have to do work outside our session. We finished the homework exercises, and he did very well on them.
We finished up Brandon's marketing class with the final exam today. It took a while, but he ended up doing very well. (A) I'm a bit concerned about his effort in this class. He definitely didn't give it his full attention, and I'm worried it's a bad habit that could come back to bite him in future classes.
Brandon finished his discussion post with no problems. We had to review the nature of the conflict of Mary 'Queen of Scots' who was executed by her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England. This provided a nice background for Brandon's views on the nature of monarchical conflicts that occurred over the prospect of power (cousins betraying cousins, monarchs "saving face" and killing the other in order to preserve their power). After he finished writing, we moved on to next week's reading on Galileo.
Brandon took the time to review his outline and apply it to the creation of this week's discussion board posts. As the discussion board is worth 40% of his overall grade, Brandon spends a lot of time making sure that his posts are replete with specific references to the readings and that they adequately contain his personal insight on each topic. This is what Brandon worked on through our session.
Brandon and I finished the week's reading, so we turned to synthesizing what we read for the creation of an outline for his discussion board post. This took us some time, as there was much to remember and verify. In the end, Brandon chose to write about three specific events in his discussion of how historical choices can sometimes be interpreted as fate.
Brandon and I finished watching the video on the Ming Dynasty. We then moved on to the week's reading requirement, which took a more in-depth look at the lives of the emperors of the Ming. This reading is about 45 pages in length, so we are going to work hard to make sure we have what we need for the discussion post.
Brandon responded to two of his peers, per the discussion board requirements. Per our usual routine, we looked through the week's assignments and determined which items to tackle first. As there was a 57 minute video requirement, we started there. The video covered ancient Chinese culture with a particular emphasis on the Ming dynasty, the week's topic. Brandon took some notes on the video that were of particular importance to the discussion post.
We continued reading through the lecture materials posted by the professor. There were many different names and monarchs to keep track of, so Brandon was asked to take notes on things that he thought we could use in his post. After we finished reading, Brandon created an outline with page numbers to easily refer to the material.
