Discuss reading/vocabulary building
assess reading comprehension
Ben is actually in pretty good shape. We talked about things he can do to improve his reading skills (i.e. read articles/find main idea of paragraphs/build vocabulary), and then spent the rest of the session working through reading comprehension exercises. Ben's issue isn't that his reading comprehension skills are weak, but rather the way he approaches the test. He says time is not an issue and he had 25-30 minutes left over. I noticed that he does not consult the text before answering questions, or confirm his answers in the text. This simple step should be enough to get him over the hump.
