The Tangent Line Problem and the Derivative.
Lesson Outline
We explored secant lines and tangent lines on the white board. We examined the slope of the two lines and saw how the two slopes approached the slope of the secant line as the two points on the function got closer. We then looked at the limit of the difference quotient gave us the derivative of the initial function.

We discussed limits in general and how limits broke logjams for both Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz in developing differential and integral calculus. We then explored finding limits of functions manually and with the use of the graphing calculators.
