We are working through his final review packet, however, he lost what we worked on last time. We went through some of the topics, and continued to move through the packet. He is very bright (he just needs more practice), he remembered some of what we did the last time we met (a week ago), so hopefully he is looking at some of it himself.
His Geometry teacher gave them a packet to review all of the topics from this past semester. The packet is pretty thick, and he needs time to go through all of it (and show work on some himself). I have noticed that he doesn't not remember much from the semester, so I am hoping that he reviews what we cover together so that the information sinks in.
When he came in, he didn't have a particular topic to cover, so we went into the section that they are currently focused on. We looked at some concepts that will be coming, and there will be a lot of proofs with triangles, which requires knowledge of certain properties that he did not seem to remember/know. We went over a bunch of different properties that he will see to do these proofs (Properties of Equality, etc).
He brought in some homework involving triangles, how to classify them according to their lengths and angles, identifying right triangles, and using the Exterior Angle Theorem to solve for exterior angles. We completed all of his homework for this section.
We continued to work through the topics/concepts on the practice exam. How to approach the questions algebraically, and use some tricks such as process of elimination to answer them quickly and efficiently (if necessary increase the probability of a correct guess).
We are continuing to work through his practice exam.

We may not complete his practice exam by tomorrow. He is definitely not ready, and he knows it and doesn't care. I don't foresee him passing, but maybe as he's taking the exam he will pay more attention, hopefully. He would probably benefit more from going through Algebra 1 one more time, since his algebraic background is weak.
We are going through a practice exam, to remind him of concepts on his Algebra 1 EOC, and how to answer each type of question. He needs more practice, and time, if possible.
Cal needs a lot of practice for the EOC. We are working through a practice exam together, to refresh his memory. I sent him home with problems to look at, along with a formula sheet that we started to memorize. I see potential in him, when he focuses on motivating himself.

Cal is very lazy, and has not looked at the information the whole time he was away. He is not even close to being ready for this test, and doesn't really care if he has to retake Algebra 1. He told me "My mother took Algebra 1 four times." I told him that he has to get to Algebra 2 in high school to get a diploma, so he doesn't want to do that. He has moments where he tries to motivate himself, and focus. He always has a hard time staying focused, but I think that is just a disinterest in the information and extreme laziness. We crack jokes, and have fun, and I love the moments when he tells me he wants to learn a more complicated way of approaching a problem, or tells me that he wants to practice more of a specific type of problem. It shows potential.
Today Cal showed me a review packet that he needs to go through for next year at Dreyfus. Since it seems to be a placement exam, I do not want to go through the exam for him, but I have been teaching him the concepts. Today Cal attended the whole session and asked many questions to gain understanding of math and the logic behind it. I was very happy!!
We reviewed some of the topics that we covered the last time we met (set theory), and then began working on a practice test. I told him to continue to work on it at home.
