Brief History of FL and Intro. to Geography terminology
Lesson Outline
Despite being 20 minutes late for class, Elle arrived with a great attitude, ready to learn. We began the lesson talking about the history of Florida, from Spanish claims starting with Ponce de Leon in 1513 to FL becoming a state in 1845, the Apollo space launch in 1969, the opening of Disney World in 1971 and as of 2015, FL surpassing NY State in population as now the third most populous state in the US. We discussed/reviewed the concepts of: Latitude, Longitude, Hemisphere, Scale, Physical Maps, Political Maps, Movement, Culture, Primary Sources, Government and Democracy. We concluded the lesson with a introduction of the FIVE THEMES OF GEOGRAPHY: Location, Region, Place, Movement, Human-Environment Interactions.

Elle was 20 minutes late for the 10:00AM lesson. She missed her 9:00 - 10:00AM class entirely due to her mom oversleeping today.
Bobby needs to bring the Niagara Falls project directions for the next class. Bobby recalled some of what he needed to do for the project and we gathered information about the Falls.
Go online and find pictures to include in project...Brogan has decided to make a collage of the exciting California natural attractions, such as, the Pacific Ocean, Redwood Forest, Death Valley, etc. and the famous tourist attractions like Hollywood, Disney World, or the Golden Gate Bridge.
Discuss/look at handouts and textbook for the different land formations in California as well as the many tourist attractions...Brogan will decide which type she wants to focus on for her project.

Brogan is a conscientious student and does really good work.
Kelly's Geography project is finished, so she wanted to catch up on other things. We reviewed a list of the books that she should read over the summer or in her free time that will help her to increase her vocabulary, improve her writing, and provide her with the cultural references and foundation that will be helpful for college and standardized tests.
