1)Dicuss "So You Want to Be a Writer. Here's How" as a Process Analysis Essay. Questions: Is the writer prescribing a plan of action for all potential writers? Or is she merely suggesting one? How can you tell? Who is Virigina Woolf, how does her model compare to the one presented in the essay?
2)Dicuss "The Spider and the Wasp" essay as a Exemplative Process Analysis. What is the author's thesis? How does he go about proving this? What is his model?
We reviewed to guidelines for solving related rates problems, including a good-sized discussion of translating the "word problem into a model (equation) which we could differentiate to give us rates of change. Then we began work on a fairly complex problem which we were unable to finish.

Today in class Jessica and I discussed the Norton Sampler Essay "How Boys Become Men." In this discussion, Jessica was asked to come up with arguments for/against Jon Katz's assertion that boys are born with a "code of conduct" that denigrates their ability to feel empathy until they are men.

We worked through two problems--one "meaty" problem involving the expansion of a spherical balloon as it is blown up and one "spare" problem where we calulate the change in y in a function's graph as x changes at a given rate.
