Dicuss "Losing Private Dwyer" and "English is a Crazy Language"
Lesson Outline
Jessica and I discussed these two essays from The Norton Sampler. In "Losing Private Dwyer," the focus was on how media images (in this case, an American Solider rescuing an Iraqi child) can either propagate or undermine certain ideologies. Our discussion of "English is a Crazy Language" was centered around identifying different rhetorical strategies within the work.
Discuss "Homeward Bound" and "My Grandmother's Ashtray"

first student choice was Buck Brannaman. Buck was the actual person that the movie horse whisperer was based on. we watched a documentary on Buck's life and his approach to training horses.
