The General Power Rule - An Application of the Chain Rule.
Lesson Outline
We discussed higher derivatives (3rd, fourth and fifth) and also a couple of new trig derivatives. We then went to the General Power Rule and compared it to the simple power rule. We spent the remainder of the time applying the rule in solving problems.

We worked through a monster problem in which we applied the Quotient Rule to find the derivative of a function that was the ratio of two polynomials. We used the derivative to find the slope of the original function's tangent line and evaluated it a specific point. We used the point to get us the equation of the tangent line. Then we graphed the original function and the tangent line on the calculator and verified the accuracy of our calculations.
