Similar Right Triangles - Problems
Lesson Outline
We worked a somewhat challenging problem involving the second corollary to the similar right triangle theorem and started a second one. We ran out of time, but will pick up tomorrow and complete the problem.

More Right Triangle Similarity - Problems
Lesson Outline
We slogged away on problems from the text which were somewhat challenging. The problem solver had to know the corollaries of the triangle similarity theorem in order to begin solving the problems.

Finish Chapter 11 Quiz
Lesson Outline
The Chapter 11 quiz, begun during our last session, continued to a conclusion today, as Will had requested. We started with a customary question-and-answer segment. Will asked a number of good questions, which I answered to the best of my ability. The remainder (and bulk) of the Chapter 11 quiz was then administered. This consumed most of the remaining session time. Brief discussion about the status of Will's research took place before the session concluded. I reminded Will that this was my last week as his teacher in US History.

The Industrial Revolution and Its Aftermath
Lesson Outline
We started out where we left off last weekend, with the development of an expanding middle class with its customs, mores and improved educational opportunities. We got into the development of the arts and especially impressionism and impressionist painters (Monet, Manet and Van Gogh). (Whom we examined on line.) We ended up with Norman Rockwell and his portrayals of middle class America.

(Sub for Jennifer) Will participated fully in the session. There were a few tie-ins between this material and some of the history we saw in "Connections2".

Lesson Topic
TLC "Connections2" Series: "Getting It Together" and "WhoDunIt?".
Lesson Outline
We watched the third and fourth episodes of James Burke's wonderful series. In "Getting It Together," Burke started with a police SWAT Team rehearsal/exercise and examined all the elements that had to come together to make for an effective SWAT operation. In the second episode, Burke plays the part of a detective gathering clues which eventually lead to the discovery of fingerprinting as a valuable tool in criminal investigations.

Similar Right Triangles - Problems
Lesson Outline
We worked two large and challenging problems from the text involving both corollaries to the Right Triangle Similarity Theorem. We combined knowledge of the content of the corollaries with algebra to find the lengths of various parts of the triangle9s0.

Finish PowerPoint, Ch. 2 of Watchmen
Lesson Outline
Will did a great job of finishing his PowerPoint presentation on Alan Moore, the author of our course text. Will is very interested in the comic-genius, and he provided some nice details about Moore's birthplace, early/late career, and present life. As Will was working on his PowerPoint, we discussed how Moore's upbringing may have influenced his later life, and Will made some good connections between the biographical information and Moore's works. Once Will was finished with the PowerPoint, we finished reading Chapter 2 of Watchmen.
