Will completed yesterday's homework. He worked hard on today's "mega-problem."
Prior to administering the Chapter 6 quiz, I gave Will an opportunity to ask questions, as is my customary practice. His questions were pointed and intelligent. In fact, two of the three quiz questions dealt with subjects he raised! We had a healthy discussion, reviewing the material in the chapter, which ran significantly longer than such discussions normally do--a good thing, in my view. The quiz was then administered. This took almost all the remaining session time. At the end, I briefly summarized the upcoming topics in Chapter 7.
Today we completed discussion of Chapter 6, including the Federalist Party's program and the emergence of the Republic Party in opposition, the Jay Treaty with Britain, the Pinckney Treaty with Spain, George Washington's warning about foreign entanglements, the bitter election of 1796 won by John Adams, the Quasi-War with France, the Alien and Sedition Acts, the election of 1800 (in which Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr tied in electoral votes, leaving the election in the hands of the "lame duck" Congress), and the so-called midnight appointments of Federalists to judicial posts before Adams left office.
We spent the first 15 minutes going over sat night's homework. We worked some follow-up problems and then spent the rest of the session discussing the perpendicular bisector, its converse as well as the angle bisector and its converse. We used the white bard extensively for illustrations.
