Will joined the session with alacrity, demonstrating a solid grasp of the material.
At the beginning of today's session, I gave Will a schedule for our class through the midterm exam, set for Thursday, 8/7/14. At Will's request, and after discussion, I agreed to change the exam date to Tuesday, 8/12/14, to which Will also agreed. He and I had a frank discussion about the need for him to study the material outside of class, which he indicated he does not generally do for any of his classes at present. I told him that I felt he would get much more out of our class discussions if he did the reading, and prepared for quizzes, at home or elsewhere. Will seemed to agree, and in any event did not disagree. At one point in the session his sister, Megan, appeared at the door, and she and I introduced ourselves to each other. Thereafter, Will was given a break, and then I administered the Chapter 5 quiz, which took roughly the balance of the session.

Another really good session. Will continues to improve and show his interest in many different musical styles. I suggest that he, at the very least, buy a pair of sticks and a practice pad for rudimental practice at home. If he is able to buy a full drum kit so he can practice his coordination and rhythmic exercises at home, he will improve even more quickly.

Lesson Comments
Will was able to play a few rhythms that had been very challenging for him in past sessions. He showed some interest in jazz drumming, so we spent some time talking about the different rhythmic approaches in jazz as opposed to rock. He did a great job playing basic swing patterns on the ride cymbal.
