Will was a bit out of sorts this morning but paid full attention to the video and asked excellent questions
During this session, Will explored the military, economic, political, and religious policies and events during the reigns of Henry IV and Louis XIV. Included in this session were the political advisors, including Richelieu, the construction of Versailles, and the events that led to the discontent of French peasants prior to the French Renaissance. We also discussed the decline of France during that time period due to economic instability caused by multiple factors.
We started by proving the HL Theorem together. Then we worked several practice problems from the textbook. Problems included proofs and using techniques from algebra to answer questions about congruent right triangles.

Will remained involved and engaged in our discussions and our problem-solving throughout.
In today's session we completed consideration of Chapter 5, focusing on the conflicts between westward expansion (facilitated by the land survey grid system) and territorial claims of native Americans (who, after all, were there first), the massive debt burdens of states resulting from the Revolutionary War, the inadequacy of the Articles of Confederation in providing a means of raising revenue sufficient to pay off such debts, and the importance in this regard of Shays' Rebellion.
This session was an extension of the previous one. We worked textbook problems, including a problem involving the architecture of the U. S. Air Force Academy chapel as well as a problem involving a high rail antenna and its guy-wires.

We did a complete review for the first quiz that will take place next class, Friday. Now he knows the questions and has 2 days to prepare. I am very curious to find out how he will do on the test.
During this session we discussed the rapid growth and eventual demise of the Spanish empire. Will learned about Charles V and Philip II, the benefits of arranged marriages during this era of history, the role of silver in the rise of the empire, the defeat of the Spanish Armada, conflicts with other nations in Europe, and the events that led to the fall of the Spanish empire (exile of Muslims & Jews, over taxing small middle class, inflation, etc).
