“The Adventures of Charles Pierce; The Last Egret” by Harvey Oyer III – Today she published her paragraph by typing into Google Docs, comparing and contrasting the two main characters in the story.
Arianna worked on a variety of review activities today. First, she completed a mental math minute on basic addition facts and took quick quizzes on patterns, sorting data, and 2-digit subtraction. Then, Arianna took a Khan academy test related to our recent lessons on adding and subtracting fractions with common denominators before she completed multi-digit addition and subtraction word problems.

Arianna and I read a Time for Kids magazine containing several articles of interest. She completed a ReadingEggspress lesson to practice writing for a specific audience and drawing conclusions. We completed our session with another chapter of Harry Potter where we learned that Harry may very well be in grave danger although he isn't as concerned about it as others are.
Arianna began with a mental math minute solving addition facts and quick quizzes on even and odd numbers, reading a calendar, and the difference between when shapes flip or slide. Then we continued to work with fractions, focusing on reducing fractions to the lowest terms by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number. We finished with lessons on Mathseeds on comparing fractions and shading models to match word problems.

2.She played an interactive game on the computer titled, “Florida State Symbols and Word Games” and completed an IXL lesson.
Arianna and I read a Time for Kids article about a boy whose school tried to prevent him from wearing his dreadlocks to school. She also worked on a spelling lesson in Reading Eggspress with a focus on long vowels. We picked up in Harry Potter where we left off yesterday when Harry made a daring escape on a very strange bus.
Arianna and I watched a video from Loggerhead Marine Center about the dangers of plastic waste in the ocean. We pulled out vocabulary words to examine for their Greek roots; biodegrade, microplastic and macroplastic. She completed a Reading Eggspress lesson to practice finding the main idea and details in a selection. She also completed the assessment for her current level with 100% mastery. After summarizing the previous chapter and the strange behavior of Cornelius Fudge, we read the next chapter in Harry Potter.
Arianna and I continued to work with fractions, focusing on adding and subtracting fractions with common denominators, related to real world problems. We read through different fraction related problems while looking for clue words to determine if addition or subtraction was needed to solve. We also reviewed how to change an improper fraction into a mixed number. Arianna finished with an addition facts mental math minute and quick quizzes on reading numbers and adding mentally.
