During today's session, we continued to learn about food chains, food webs, and roles of different organisms. We also watched the end of a video from PBS on the job of a zoologist. Arianna really enjoyed the portion of this film that featured questions from students.
After reading Chapter 13, she had to write a caption for a picture I provided her with of the Seminole Village the characters visited. She also drew the route on a map that Charlie described in the story. After that we started to read chapter 14 in “The Adventures of Charles Pierce; The Last Egret” by Harvey Oyer III. She continued to add words to the list of unfamiliar words in her journal and Florida animals and plants to her list in her journal page.
1.Descriptive Language- We discussed and identified many pages in the book where the author used vivid language. Arianna had to select one of these sentences and draw what she saw in her mind.
2. We read chapters 15-17 in “The Adventures of Charles Pierce; The Last Egret” by Harvey Oyer III and discussed the actions of the characters.
Arianna and I read the conclusion of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets". We were satisfied that all of our questions were answered, and a special secondary character got his happy ending. She also completed a lesson on IXL practicing the usage of homophones and did a great job spelling the correct words.
Arianna and I began with a spiral review on adding fractions, comparing capacity, rounding, comparing fractions, and finding equivalent fractions. Then, she answered a few questions from the unit test on how fractions and division relate, mixed numbers, equivalent fractions, and comparing fractions. We finished with work on Arianna's fraction packet on using multiplication or division to find equivalent fractions. She circled fraction sets that were multiplied by the same number creating equivalent fractions.
This morning we discussed food chains and roles of different organisms. Arianna completed a learning activity that focused on an ocean based food chain to practice concepts and vocabulary.
Arianna and I completed a daily spiral review together on finding equivalent fractions, mixed numbers, subtraction and multiplication word problems, and writing fractions in simplest form. Then, we worked on fraction activities involving proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers. Arianna classified each type of fraction and wrote fractions based on shaded figures. She finished with long division practice online.
Arianna continued to work with fractions, taking a quiz on Khan academy after completing practice lessons. The material covered equivalent fractions using models and number lines, common denominators, least common multiple of two denominators, visually comparing fractions with unlike denominators, comparing fractions using benchmarks, and comparing fractions with unlike numerators and denominators.
