Analise and I made green glitter slime as a craft today. She measured out water and clear glue and mixed them together in a bowl along with lots of glitter. She combined the glue mixture with liquid starch and stirred until it thickened. The rest of the lesson was spent stretching, pulling, cutting, and playing with the slime. Analise had so much fun with this activity while benefiting from sensory play. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, social interaction, and allows her to use her creative thinking skills.

Analise was very excited today about her trip to Disney World...leaving after school today!
We have slowly been looking through a children's Planet Earth Encyclopedia. We take more time on any area that Analise shows an interest. Today, she wanted to spend time talking about fossils. We talked about fossils being the remains of plants and animals that lived and died millions of years ago that have been preserved. We looked at a few prehistoric animals and how archeologists chip away the rock to reveal fossils. She thought all of this information was fascinating.
Analise was very excited to finish her "test" first thing this morning and she was very proud of herself when she got all 10 problems correct. We were able to complete a few measurement worksheets together. These allowed Analise to practice the concept of measuring objects with other objects. An object would be shown then Analise would count the other objects to see how many of one makes up the other. She did very well with this lesson. Like always, we had fun coloring the worksheets together once the work was complete. Analise is very excited to leave for Disney today. She told me that she is most excited to see Minnie Mouse.
Analise and I continued to work on her subtraction skills today. She wondered why she had to practice so much. I explained that practicing will make her quick so that she does not need her fingers or visual aids to help. For today, we used the teddies she likes so much. We brought the bears out then pretended some of them had to leave. Analise does great with subtraction when using manipulatives. I explained how next year she might have to take a test without help to see if she understands. Her eyes got big and she said, "Can I take a test like a first grader?" I gave her a "test" with 10 subtraction problems. She used the teddy bears and finished 6 problems correctly before the lesson was over. She is excited to finish tomorrow.
Analise worked on her next lesson on Reading Eggs. She read two stories on her "just right" level and took the comprehension quizzes. She learned to look back through the text to find the answer if she couldn't remember. We worked on her Green Eggs and Ham project to document her experience :)
