Animals
Lesson Outline
Analise and I finished reading The Complete Guide to Animals by Barbara Toft. This is such a large, inclusive book that Analise had to pick and choose what interested her to read more about. She was very interested in knowing which animals bit people, how hard they bite, and how big their teeth are. As we read, we talked about how animals are classified into 2 groups depending on if they have a backbone, vertebrate or do not have a backbone, invertebrate. We also discussed the habitats of different animals and how they live in the rainforest, desert, ocean, grasslands, snow, woods etc. Analise seemed to thoroughly enjoy learning about so many different animals.

Piano
Lesson Outline
We worked on Analise's dexterity today, learning our C major tetrachord: a 5-note scale, hands apart, ascending and descending (all white keys in C major). Our next step is combining hands together and once we become comfortable in this 5-note scale, we'll be able to branch out to our full 8-note C major scale!

Math Worksheets
Lesson Outline
Today, Analise worked on a few different worksheets. The first introduced skip counting skills. She practiced counting by 2's, 4's, 10's, and 100's. The 4's were a little bit tricky which is to be expected and she did great on all of the others. We will continue to work on skip counting by 4. We worked on a pattern worksheet together. Analise had to cut out animal footprints and glue them in the correct pattern. Finally, she wrote the correct number in a line of numbers. For example 97, 98, 99, and Analise had to write 100. The lower numbers were easier for her and a little tricky in the hundreds. Analise worked very hard today and did wonderful job listening.

Flamingo
Lesson Outline
Analise took 3 different shades of pink tissue paper and tore them into small pieces. She glued them onto a paper plate which made the body. It turned out very colorful and fluffy. We cut a head and neck out of hot pink poster board and also glued tissue paper onto it. A pair of high heel shoes were cut out of the pink poster board and decorated with pink glitter to make them fancy. She painted wooden dowels pink to make the flamingo's legs. Analise used tape to tape the head to the body, the feet to the legs, and the legs to the body. She took shimmery tule fabric and bunched it up to make wings. Finally, she made eyes and we hung it on a string. Analise was very proud of her flamingo and showed as many people as she could find.

Measurement
Lesson Outline
Analise spent a short time on Brain Pop Jr. working on measurement. The concept of inches and feet were introduced along with the ability to measure items. Analise spun an online spinner that had a measurement task at each stop. For example, find something in the room under 1 inch or find something that is 6 inches. She used a paper ruler to help her find objects. Analise also worked on a worksheet continuing the tallest and shortest concept we began earlier in the week.

Phonics/Reading
Lesson Outline
Today Analise worked on worksheets pertaining to phonics. She worked on the letter "i". She did well with this activity and wanted to work on another sheet that her teacher left for her. Also we looked at and read a book called "Cat and Mouse in the Snow". Because it is the birthday of Dr. Seuss this week we read "The Lorax" and "Horton Hears a Who".
