Analise started her morning by working on her calendar journal. She was worried it was raining outside and she would not be able to go outside to play. We took a walk to look, she was so excited the sun was coming out. In the weather square of her journal she cut the square in half to make one side rainy and one side sunny. I had Analise write her numbers 1-29 on the dry erase board which she did with ease and with very nice handwriting. Then we did a worksheet together on fact families using the numbers 0-9. We used legos as manipulatives which really helped her visualize the addition and subtraction problems we were working on. Finally, we did a connect the dot color sheet with the numbers 0-80. She had no problem finding all the numbers and we had fun coloring it together.
There were many activities - handouts (pages to color, word search, etc.) giving information about our country, including facts about different presidents, the symbols of our country and what they stand for. Together, Analise and I completed a word search. We had a good session.
Today I took a little time to get to know Analise while we worked on her daily calendar. We went over the days of the week, the months, the weather outside, and the seasons. We will do this at the beginning of each science session. Together we read Oh Say Can You Seed by The Cat in the Hat. She really liked this book and kept checking to make sure I did not skip any pages. We started working on a parts of a plant workbook. Analise cut out and pasted all the parts of the plant then began to color it. She choose yellow because she thought the flower looked like a sunflower. We will continue working on our book on Wednesday. We then went to the library for a presentation on dolphins by Ms. Barbara, the marine biologist. It was so interesting with great pictures and dolphin vertebrae the kids were allowed to hold. I think we all took in some amazing information.
Welcome back Anelise! Today we reviewed finding 'middle C' on the keyboard by investigating the pattern we see in the black keys (which are in groups of 2's and 3's). We also reviewed finger numbers (thumbs are 1, forefingers are 2, etc) as well as hand placement and technique. Anelise was able to learn two songs from the lesson book: "Birthday Party" and "Sandman's Near". We also sang through a Scottish folksong called "Aiken Drum". This song has many funny verses with challenging words to look forward to in our coming lessons! Great job today!

Lesson Comments
It was a pleasure to work with Analise today. She is so sweet and cooperative.
Today we continued our shopping game! I brought in things and we also found objects from around the school and we talked about different ways to classify objects. She grasped the concept very well. She not only classified them by the types of objects but we also alphabetized them and made signs for them with prices. She learned the difference between a dollar sign and cents sign. I gave her five $1, twenty five pennies, five nickles, five dimes and four quarters. Then we took turns being the store clerk and the shopper! She loved this activity! We talked about making change up to $1. She learned there are 100 pennies in a dollar, four quarters in a dollar and so on...
We also completed a puzzle that had 48 pieces. She did a great job and never wanted to quit or give up when we got to the more challenging sections!
Today Analise wrote the entire alphabet upper and lowercase for me! She used the alphabet chart for reference a few times but did an excellent job!

I look forward to the possibility of working with Analise next year!
Today Analise was the teacher! She led me in our morning routine, counted to 100 without any help and was able to with a little help tell me what today is, yesterday was and what tomorrow will be! We went out to check to forecast and she put the correct signs up to describe todays weather. She would make a great Meteorologist! She did an AWESOME job!
Today we began to create a guide for caring for a pet tortoise based on our research yesterday! She helped me type some of the words and added pictures. It is turning out really cute and is quite informative! She was able to retain what we learned about yesterday. I am quite impressed!
We also did a keyboarding lesson. We are practicing typing her first and last name. Once she completed it she added clip art and printed out her work! She was super excited about how it turned out!
We also played some games on abcYa. She is very determined to get the answers correct and will not quit until she does!
Today we created an obstacle course and worked on motor skills. She is very coordinated and was able to effortlessly complete the course!
Today we did a review of all letters Aa - Zz. To begin we played a matching game with upper and lowercase letters. She did very well! We made up movements to help remember letter sounds for all of the vowels. For example, Ii - itch you arm! She had fun helping come up with different things! We also talked about vowels and made up a rap to remember them!
Today we worked on our turtle research. She learned several new facts about turtles and tortoises. We watch videos on how to care for pet turtles and tortoises. I used this as an opportunity for a comprehension lesson. She was able to explain and answer all of my questions! Her attention span has gotten better and is able to stay on task for a longer period of time now!
For math we are working on counting by 10s up to 100. We are using counters to help with simple addition adding groups of 10!
Analise had a great day!
Analise and I added to her letter board, contributing a letter "u" and "v" to her wall. We thought of some great things that started with the letter "u" (umbrella, uniform, uncle) and "v" (volcano) and Analise drew a corresponding picture for each letter.
