Today in math Analise counted the days of the week, the number of days so far this month, and the months of the year. We try to incorporate numbers into everything we do. Each morning she likes a cup of tea. I have her find the right numbers to turn on the microwave and then we count down from 60 until it is done.
For math practice Analise was excited to use the computer. Together we played a game on Brain Pop Jr. The game introduced the concept of adding on which teaches the idea to start with a certain amount of objects and add 1, or 2, or 3 to get a total. She also wanted to do another dot to dot but wanted to use the computer and not a pencil. We found one that went to 114. She found all the numbers and connected all the dots to make a rooster. It was pretty tricky maneuvering the mouse. I was very impressed with her fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, determination to finish, and ability to locate all the numbers.
Analise used the computer (Razz Kids) to read stories "Pets, In, Out, and The Garden". She read very well. Later, she wrote words on the chalkboard, which she loved doing. In the afternoon, we went to the art room and she expressed herself creatively by finger painting...she was quite pleased with the outcome. Later, she wanted to read more stories. These were a level above the morning stories. She read,"The Hen, It is Fall, Big, Green, Colorful Eggs, and The Ocean" - she accumulated over 600 stars! After that, I read Jack and the Beanstalk to her.__________________
This morning we had all new posters on the wall as visual aids for Analise. A big calendar for her to place the date in each day, the months of the year, the seasons, and the weather outside. She was very excited to see October on the wall because, as she said, "that's my birthday month". We also talked about the concept of today, yesterday and tomorrow. We practiced counting to 100 by 10's which she did easily. Analise picked out Too Many Cooks by Andrea Buckles and Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang. In both books there were age appropriate math problems and counting which we did together as we read.
Today Analise and I looked up some recipes. Analise requested to bake something with chocolate in it. We found a great Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe that we are going to try next week.
We practiced all the poses in "Yoga Bear" that included: mountain, triangle, tree, down dog, lion, cat/cow and bow pose. Analise was able to do all the poses. She looked at the pictures and duplicated the pose. Analise is already an excellent yoga student and was enthusiastic about learning more.

Analise is improving in sound recognition...so cute!
Today we sang through a lullaby called "All The Pretty Little Horses". We talked about what a lullaby is and what it is used for along with the mood of a lullaby, using describing words like "comforting" and "calming". We also started a piano piece today called Au Claire De La Lune". This song employs a slower, easily accessible melody that is passed between the two hands. This makes Analise comfy using both hands.
As soon as Analise arrived this morning she wanted to go outside to check on her plant. She saw that it had not grown and then colored a picture of the soil in her plant growth chart. We discussed that the plant starts to grow under the soil before we are able to see the sprout. We also filled in her daily calendar. Analise was able to finish her Parts of a Plant book that we began on Monday. She cut out the different plant parts and plant needs and then pasted them into the correct column. She also wrote a little about plants and drew a picture of a flower. We finished our lesson on plants with a book called "A Seed in Need" by Sam Godwin. We discussed how much we need plants/trees and how they are used to make paper, clothes and furniture. We also talked a little about recycling paper so it can be reused. Analise seemed to really enjoy learning about plants and how they grow. We were able to work on 2 math worksheets. One worked on subtraction skills using the numbers 1-6. It showed pictures of bees flying away to show how many were left. Analise did this very quickly and with no problem. We also worked on a fun math about me worksheet.
I wanted to work on a couple crafts that correlated to our plant lesson yesterday. First, Analise filled a plastic water bottle, that I cut in half, with soil and poked little holes for the seeds. She then planted sunflower seeds and we placed the top of the water bottle back on. We talked about the seeds needing soil for the roots, sun for the leaves and water to drink. We found a place outside for it to grow and we will check it everyday. She named it "Sunny". Our second craft was a maraca. I brought in a seed pod from a Poinciana tree. We talked about how the tree protects the seeds inside the pod until it falls. Then the pod cracks open and the seeds fall into the dirt to grow a new tree. Until then, the pods make really good maracas!! Analise painted it pink, red, and blue. We finished the first coat and left it to dry. On Friday we will be able to decorate it so she can take it home.
