In this session, Symone and I discussed her final review before the exam. The topics we covered were logarithms, logarithmic properties, the solution of logarithmic equations, exponential equations and their solution, one-to-one functions, and inverse functions.
Symone and I worked through most of her cumulative review, concentrating on some of the more difficult aspects of the course, including logarithms, exponentials, and solving rational equations.
The vertex form for the equation of a parabola - Graphing a parabola given three points - Graphing a parabola given its equation - Interpreting the equation of a parabola in terms of a horizontal and vertical shift -
End behavior of polynomials. Constructing polynomials from zeros given algebraically or graphically. Rational zeros theorem. Upper and lower bounds of a polynomial - Graph sketching -
Using given zeros to find the remaining zeros in a polynomial by dividing out the known factor. Factoring using the "ac" method and the quadratic formula - Find all rational zeros using the rational zeros theorem and synthetic division.
Definition of quadratic functions - Examples. Expression in standard and vertex forms - The parabola - Transformation by stretching and shifting vertically and horizontally - Conversion from standard form to vertex form by completing the square - Writing quadratic equations for given parabolas -
Today, Symone read an informational passage, listened to an interview and analyzed a data chart on the same topic to prepare for answering comprehension questions. Next, she did a number of practice math problems from the FSA math test.
Today, Symone and I read a dual reading passage. We discussed tone, similarities, differences, writing style, and the character's motivations. Symone then answered questions that related to both passages. Next, Symone practiced a number of questions from the FSA math questions in preparation for the upcoming assessment.
Today we reviewed the Pythagorean theorem and distance formula. Symone did a number of practice problems, and then we moved on to reading comprehension. Symone read a fiction passage from the FSA and answered the accompanying questions.
