Today, Symone put her elimination strategies into practice after reading an FSA sample passage. She answered two-part questions, and we discussed how to link the answers for each part of the question. Next, we went over using the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two coordinate points, then we practiced finding the distance between two points using only the distance formula, without graphing. I taught Symone to use the number line when she is confused about how to add or subtract two negatives.

Symone worked on finding the distance between two points on a coordinate plane using the Pythagorean theorem. Next we went over a FSA reading prompt, discussed the questions beforehand, and tried to eliminate and predict the answers before reading the passage.

Symone worked on a number of Pythagorean theorem questions, as well as word problems. We then analyzed question types on the FSA and went over how to eliminate incorrect answers.

Today, we went over linear equations and how to find the equation for a line and to graph it. Symone practiced finding the correct coordinates for a set of equations. She then practiced how to solve for -y, and then practiced graphing the equations. Next, Symone read a passage. We discussed how to find out a vocabulary word using context clues, the organization of the passage, and the attitude and theme. Symone then answered a set of reading comprehension questions.

Symone and I reviewed transforming shapes on a coordinate plane. We practiced rotating and reflecting the coordinates of different shapes over the y- and x- axes. Next, we read a short story and discussed tone, mood, figurative language, and Symone answered FSA practice questions related to the readings.

Symone and I reviewed her math lesson, and did a number of examples to solidify her understanding of transforming shapes on a coordinate plane. Next, Symone completed a reading comprehension exercise and completed the corresponding questions. We discussed the text and her answers.

Symone and I did a math warm up. Next, we reviewed slope and the linear equation of a line. Simone then did a number of questions to practice finding the slope of a line from a graph and from coordinates.

Symone and I read "Charles" by Shirley Jackson. We discussed the point of view of the story, and how the story would have changed if one of the other character's had written it. We also covered some of the difficult vocabulary in the short story, using context clues and root words to decipher their meaning. Lastly, Symone completed a reading comprehension exercise that asked her to determine the main idea of each paragraph given.

Symone and I reviewed the multiplication tables and then did some practice with converting fractions to decimals. Next, we worked on memorizing squares and square roots.

Symone and I reviewed her multiplication facts from last week, then we did a few critical reading passages with questions. Symone did very well on both.
