Lesson Outline
Today, Symone reviewed the multiplication tables so that she could enter the school year with those fresh in her mind. Next, we covered basic fractions and long division. Symone completed a number of math problems to practice the concepts we covered. I also reviewed with her the distributive property of mathematics and explained how fractions relate to division and multiplication. We will continue to review these concepts until Symone can implement them with confidence and ease.

Symone and I read two passages and discussed theme, plot, conflict, author's purpose, similarities and differences, and difficult vocabulary, We then answered questions on these different topics. The vocabulary covered includes: preposterous, trial, delusional, and archaic.

Money Word Problems and Time Problems
Lesson Outline
Symone began the session by reading and solving a variety of word problems. Symone had to figure out the number of various coins needed to equal a specified amount of money. Play coins were used as a visual for solving the problems. The final part of the session was spent using a clock to show various times and then to find elapsed time. Symone did a good job, and she is very attentive.

The session began with a two digit multiplication review. Symone has that concept down pat. She worked on solving word problems with remainders next. For each problem Symone had to decide the meaning of the remainder and what should be done with it. She did an excellent job solving these problems. The final part of the session was spent working on elapsed time. This part of the lesson also had word problems that had to be solved. In future lessons more time will be spent solving elapsed time word problems. Symone had an excellent session today.

Lesson Outline
The session began with Symone solving two multiplication problems using the grid method. She then worked on finding the percentage of different amounts. Symone had a brief geometry review. Right angles will be reviewed at the next session. Several two-step word problems were solved by Symone. Some of the problems required her to divide. As a result of these problems long division was reviewed.

Lesson Outline
Symone began the session by completing some two digit by two digit multiplication problems. She was taught how to change a percent into a decimal and then multiply. Symone solved several problems to find the percent of a number. This assignment then proceeded into solving real life problems involving the total cost of an item including the tax. The final part of the session was spent working on a variety of word problems.

Some time was spent learning how to turn a fraction into a percent. The final part of the session was spent solving word problems.

Symone began the session with a couple of word problems. Each one was discussed and solved. For the remainder of the session Symone and the instructor worked on finding the mean, median and mode for several different sets of numbers. It was good to see Symone back again.

The session began with a warm up of multiplication facts. Symone knows her facts! Next we reviewed inequalities and solved a couple of problems using inequalities. Symone worked on reducing fractions. For the final part of the session she worked on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.
