Using his prior outline, Hunter completed drafting his descriptive paragraph . In order to enhance the paragraph, we read some descriptive paragraphs from Of Mice and Men and using Steinbeck's sentence structure and organization, wrote a few closing sentences by substituting some of Hunter's nouns and verbs for Steinbeck's.
We will be starting a brief poetry unit that ties into the novel he is now completing, The Book Thief, and then read Of Mice and Men.
What goes into drilling a well for a residential home? Which is better OSB or plywood? These questions and more are answered in today's class. Good session.
Hunter and I will continue going over the business side of graphic design and general business practices. We will go over the tiny house video that we watched in a previous session. We will look at some of the good that the ceo did and the failures that contributed to his call for help from Marcos Lemonis. We will spend the remaining part of the class watching what makes a good deal versus what makes a bad deal.
Hunter is watching the movie Marshall, which is about the first African American Supreme Court justice, Thurgood Marshall. Hunter will understand how historical figures and ordinary people helped to shape our community, state, and nation.
Hunter will be working on the last page of his website, the home page. Hunter will create a the first impression, introduction paragraph for his website. The paragraph should be descriptive and professional. The paragraph should include, service areas, and qualifications. Hunter will be given examples of other contracting website's introduction paragraphs from http://www.willoughbyconstruction.com/ and https://surfsidecontracting.com/.
Assignment
Hunter will collect a minimum of 25 images that revolve the subject matter covered in his website. All images must be ready by next sessions. (Hunter has been given a series of websites that he can gather stock images)
What are the top 10 college football construction sites? How does a baseball diamond convert to a football field (time lapse)? How does one HS honor it's fallen Football player with a weight room renovation? Hunter's idea of a stun tazer gun for all teachers to possibly prevent further school shootings. All these topics and more researched in today's class. Great session.
Miss Kelli had assigned a descriptive paragraph as a writing exercise.. Hunter's initial effort lacked much in the way of descriptive material. I brought in a picture of Costa Rica and then gave Hunter an opening sentence to use in drafting a descriptive paragraph. We initially drafted an outline for the paragraph and then began converting the outline into sentences, describing the scene from sky to ground. I expect we will complete this on Monday. We also corrected some incorrect word usage in his prior descriptive essay by distinguishing : were,where, we're; then and than: there and their; scalpel and rappel.
