This morning we are going to look closer into the financial condition of McDonalds while acquiring a better understanding of how McDonalds generates revenues, how they respond to changes in the marketplace or customer preference and what challenges the company has had to face during the last fiscal yearend. The annual report serves an important role not only as a marketing tool but a way to communicate to the thousands and thousands of individuals who own shares in McDonalds. Of particular interest is to learn what short term goals the company has expressed and how they are going to meet them. Is this a good investment prospect for our portfolio? The annual report will help us answer this question.

Hunter and I decided to make some changes to our list of companies we wanted to consider for investment. Two of our choices were startups that had either failed or represented a heightened risk and did not meet our investment objectives. In order to move the process forward, we have added Amazon, McDonalds and Intrexon to our list of prospective investment candidates. During our examination of Amazon, we discussed stock market timing and why Amazon stock may, or may not be a bargain at its current price level. We also discussed the concept known as "brick and mortar" which stands for physical storefronts that traditional retail businesses were comprised of. Amazon is an online retail giant that has changed the way consumers shop or purchase goods and services. Hunter was given the assignment to access the McDonald's website and contact Investor Relations in order to obtain the 2016 10K report. Once downloaded, Hunter has been asked to read the short term goals of McDonalds and to identify some of the ways that this company has changed the way they are doing business and why.

First half of class was used to look at the evaluation process that was used to grade Hunter for the first six weeks of school. The second half, we looked and made comments on the top 25 most desirable places to live in the U.S. Lastly, we went through the type of drawings one would find in a complete set of architectural blueprints and what they would show. Good session.

Hunter did a great job and showed improvement in his chord changes.

Pop quiz over "What things would you find on a floor plan"? and "What things would you find on elevation drawings"? Hunter passes the test with flying colors. Last part of class was used to view several videos on various aspects of wood frame construction such as; footing, foundation wall, flooring, wall construction, roof trusses, and roofing. Great session.

Hunter started working on a 10 question assessment on Systems of Equations and Inequalities. He had to solve some by graphing and some by substitution or elimination. He did not complete it during the allotted time, so I will have him finish on Monday.

We divided our extra long class today into two parts. The first part focused on reading of "The Book Thief". We looked over the printed version of the text together and discussed the author's language and the power of words, his use of figurative language, present throughout, the omiscient voice of Death narrating, and tone. Hunter wrote down questons - Why did the brother die? During the second part of our class, we discussed his essay and how he can add two more paragraphs to it, do a final edit, and finish it for this marking period. He did some online research, looking to ESPN news and Trump comments, and wrote during class. We discussed different points of view and opposing arguments for additional paragraphs. HOMEWORK: Add two more paragraphs to essay and read more in the book.
