How to remove the old shingle roof? How to install roof flashing? What is the purpose of a roof jack? What is an ice shield and how is it installed? How does a nail gun work? How to install attic and soffit vents? Hunter learns answers to all of there questions and more today. Great session.
Hunter will create the portfolio pages using the write ups that he has created over the last couple of days. I will walk Hunter through the construction of the web page layout. He will be responsible for all content placement, titling, and grammar.
Hunter's work can be viewed at:

I decided to vary from the lesson in the book today, so that Hunter could be more engaged. We first played an Algebra game, where we looked at a card with 4 numbers on it and had to make the number 24 by performing different operations on the numbers. It was more difficult than we expected!
I found the box of Magnetix toys. They contain magnetic balls and stick pieces that allow you to make a variety of shapes. I let Hunter explore and make whatever he wanted for a bit. I talked to him about right angles, acute, and obtuse. He knows what they are, and could make them with the pieces. We tried to make polyhedrons, which are space figures with the same shape on all of the faces. We tried to make one out of pentagons, but failed. We did succeed at making one out of pyramids.
After watching yesterday's videos on Inverse Functions, Hunter was ready to work some problems of his own. I did a few examples for him, then he went through the Algebraic process on his own. He did a nice job!
Hunter completed his work on composite functions by doing p. 400 (22-39). I had him do a review quiz, which he needed some help to remember the steps. We spent the remainder of the session watching Khan Academy videos on inverse functions. To find an inverse of a function, you switch the x and y values, then solve the equation for y in its new place.
Hunter will continue working on content that will be used for his website. Hunter will use images that he downloaded in a previous session and describe the work that was completed. He must be descriptive because this part will add tremendous depth and credibility to his site.
Hunter is working on the Supreme Court Case Analysis. This was a United States Supreme Court case resulting from the rebellion of Africans on board the Spanish schooner La Amistad in 1839.
Hunter is finishing the movie and is working on the Supreme Court Case Analysis. This was a United States Supreme Court case resulting from the rebellion of Africans on board the Spanish schooner La Amistad in 1839. It was an unusual freedom suit that involved international issues and parties, as well as United States law.
Hunter is watching the movie "Amistad."
Before delving into the actual Supreme Court case, Hunter is watching the movie "Amistad."
Hunter will gain insight into the experience of captives, the efforts of abolitionists and the legal issues involved in slavery. He will exercise his research and writing skills through an assignment at the film's end.
Before delving into the actual Supreme Court case, Hunter is watching the movie "Amistad."
The movie illustrates the horrors of the slave trade as it clarifies the divisive nature of the slavery issue in the United States. It exposes the tolerance of slavery by most Northerners as well as the power of the abolitionist movement. Moreover, the separation of powers in the U.S. Government, the workings of the court system, and the historical figure of John Quincy Adams are all important elements in the story
Objectives/Student Outcomes:
Hunter will gain insight into the experience of captives, the efforts of abolitionists and the legal issues involved in slavery. He will exercise their research and writing skills through an assignment at the film's end.
