Brought a light pad to make tracing an image easier, and to increase confidence in drawing. Jayne did great! She then colored in the animal line-art that she traced, all the while discussing aspects of each animal's ecology and conservation. Traced a lemur, a leaf tailed gecko and a day gecko.
We plan to do this activity again January 8th unless other science help is needed, to learn about more animals and how they live in the wild.

I would like to plan some time painting together in the future.
We discussed animals including the Miracle dog, as well as lemurs in Madagascar. She stated her favorite subject is art, in particular abstract art. We looked at animal cell diagrams and 3D models online, and she plans to make her animal cell from clay. I think to make science more fun for her, we need to plan lab and outdoor activities. Her love of animals is awesome. I think she would enjoy a field trip and to focus on animal art with me in the future. We discussed the projection method to trace photographs to make art easier, this would be a great activity for 2021. Very sweet child and what a beautiful family, thank you Jayne for sharing your Miracle video with me.

Please let me know in advance if there are particular areas that she needs to focus on. We had a delightful chat about a variety of subjects. She is definitely into animals and 'would love to go to Madagascar to see the lemurs' and when asked I shared photos holding them "How cute, Lucky!" She stated her favorite subject is art, in particular abstract art and wants to try marbling.
We started by talking about animals and looking at a photo book of chameleons, discussing location (Kenya, Africa) and how they blend in or camouflage to their surroundings. Then we practiced telling time with the play clock, he set a time and I read it, I set a time and he read it. Then we practiced and literacy with memory matching word game Matthew had ready. He was very interested in my foot injury and boot and said he wants to be a doctor when he grows up.
Was blown away by some of his award winning drawings, and discussed animals that could play roles in Kellan's comic series. He already included a penguin... I suggested a chameleon would be helpful because their tongues are so long they could grab things like Spiderman's hand-web, and they can change color, and what else... He said, 'they can also disappear' and explained that is seems like they disappear but that is called camouflage. He did not want to add a chameleon character, but was enthused at the idea of working on a comic lemur, a primate from Madagascar, who could assist his superhero. I will bring source photos of three lemur species next week to create a new character together.
