Gracyn practiced solving addition word problems. She read through a variety of word problems and determined what information needed to be found and what information was given. She used bar models and number sentences to represent the problems and then solve.
Gracyn used place value understanding to write and solve 2-digit addition problems. We fabricated our own word problems containing 2, 2-digit numbers which were then written in vertical format. Gracyn focused on lining up the digits in neat columns. Then, she completed practice problems rewriting given horizontal problems in vertical format and solving the problems with regrouping.
In this first Skype lesson for Social Studies, only Gracyn's video was in operation so she was able to see me and the Elmo screen share. I suggested that she color while she listened to the books and answered verbal questions regarding the community helpers: librarian, medical worker, firefighter, lawmaker. She indicated a desire to be a nurse/vet one day.
Gracyn and I read an Amelia Bedelia story for read aloud, we talked about the multiple meaning words that cause Amelia such confusion. We began a word sort with cvc, cvce, and cvvc patterns. We will finish the sort tomorrow.

Lesson Comments
Gracyn was in the kitchen for our session and the noise in the background made it very difficult to complete our work.
Gracyn made an adorable bunny hiding in the grass. She began by cutting a jagged edge along one side of green paper. Then, using white paper, she cut two long ears and a large oval for the body. A nose and smaller ears were also cut out of pink paper. The pieces were all glued together so the bunny looked like it was peaking out of the grass. Gracyn finished with google eyes and drawn on whiskers.
Today we reviewed introductio and did a sing that said me llamo Gracyn and tengo 7 años. We did some enrichment and played Spanish Twister with Stephen.
Gracyn and I organized her Skype folder for New York. She read an Elephant story and a nonfiction passage with questions. We reviewed cvce and cvvc patterns with a written word sort.
