Today we reviewed up/down and right/left. We talked about the new movie Beauty and the Beast. We did a couple of exercises on positions.

Today Gracyn was very distracted, she kept yelling for her mother and kept asking about some breakfast. Also, at the beginning she was hiding under the covers and it took a while for her to come out and do some work.
Gracyn and I read one more chapter in our Ramona and Beezus book, stopping to share our thinking as we read. She completed a word sort for the spellings of long /a/, using the words in sentences. Gracyn read another Katie Woo story today with her focus on fluency. We started a new Mo Willems story and will finish it on Monday.
We began with the music alphabet, with focus on descending order.
We also reviewed note values and names. Gracyn listened to several classical pieces, and we discussed their composers and periods of classical music, including Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and the classical and romantic periods.
Gracyn did science today through Skype. She was very excited to see the chrysalis in the butterfly cage. She saw a baby caterpillar that had just hatched on one of the milkweed leaves. She watched a video on the life cycle of the monarch and learned it will take 10 days for the butterfly to come out of the chrysalis. She read in her science book on living things and their parents and how they can have some of the same characteristics and some different. We looked at an example of horses with different markings and colorings and discussed why it is good that they are not all the same. She did a graphing and a word search activity in her science book.
Gracyn was very proud of herself for completing her assessment and answering all of the questions correctly. We began the next unit which will focus on 3-digit numbers. Today, Gracyn grouped tens as hundreds to determine how many tens were is every hundred. Then, we spent time playing money war. We each flipped over a card containing coins. The coins were tallied and the one with the most money won that round.
Gracyn was very active with our Skype yoga today, doing somersaults and flips. Part of the class I held up yoga cards with poses and Gracyn did the pose. A new pose today was insect (which she did very well). We also discussed balloon breathing and relaxation techniques.
Gracyn and I started a new Ramona and Beezus chapter book today. In the first chapter we noticed the introduction of the characters and the setting of the story. We did a second sort of the cvc, cvce,and cvvc spellings of long o. Gracyn read 'Katie Woo and the Best Club' for her guided reading, our strategy focus was inference and identifying the lesson in the story.
Gracyn's arts and crafts lesson consisted of drawing animals. She was able to visually follow the step-by-step instructions. The animals were built on simple shapes and lines combined to create cute pets. Gracyn practiced drawing a dog, cat, and hippo. She did well following the instructions and was proud of her finished pets who all received names.
Gracyn took a unit assessment today. The assessment covered determining whether a group of objects has an odd or even number of members, understanding place value, operations in base ten, and the different ways to write numbers. Gracyn answered 17 questions correctly before breaking for lunch. We will continue tomorrow with the final 7 questions.
