We learned about great inventors and began discussing Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Graham Bell. We discussed their inventions and how they have changed our lives, and changed over time. We began reviewing with flash cards to tell the time. We also began looking at "Time for Kids".

Technical difficulties after many "delay tactics" and interruptions! Gracyn spilled water on her computer. Grandpa was there to help, but no much done. She could not see things on camera, on screen-sharing, or with projector. Her computer eventually froze and she did not answer when I called back, or when I typed a message. Then she went offline. Her Mom called back to say computer was shot and she would try to get it repaired.
Gracyn and I finished our Judy Moody book today and she gave a summary of the story. She completed a word sort with cvc, cvce, and cvvc spelling patterns for the long /o/ sound. Gracyn read a level H story on Raz-Kids with strong fluency and 100% comprehension. Our strategy focus for guided reading was critiquing the story after reading.
We played math games online during our Skype session. I found a great game to help with her mental math. I want her to get used to doing sums without using her fingers (6+4=10, 7+3 =10, etc).
Once she gets the 10s down, then we will work on the 20s, etc.
Today, we reviewed Gracyn's repertoire of memorized pieces. We also transposed "Mary Had a Little Lamb" into a fourth position, G position. We played a duet, and practiced "It's a Small World" in its entirety. Next, Gracyn listened to Beethoven's "Fur Elise."
Gracyn and I made a trip to the library to exchange books. We read the next chapter of Judy Moody and disconfimed a previous prediction. Gracyn read a Katie Woo story as her guided reading book, our focus was on pacing. She completed a word study activity for the common long /a/ spellings. We read her narrative and made some corrections to her latest additions. I added a couple of word work activities to her binder.
Gracyn followed the New York Yankees Spring Training schedule to locate stops around the country. At the same time, I quizzed her about locations, regions, bordering states, and directions. We looked at Time for Kids together. We read about the climate and habitat in the desert. Gracyn made a little book about Desert Life. We learned a new landform, and archipelago, which is what New Zealand is, and read about the rat race there. Gracyn researched to learn more about Tampa and put together a list of fun Things to Do in Tampa for kids. She is planning on checking things off her list. She shared news about the great zoo she visited there. Finally, we completed a lesson on using resources for basic needs, learning how native Americans wove baskets, made tools, shelter, and other items they needed for daily life out of natural materials.
Gracyn began today with an introduction into counting patterns within 1,000. She wrote in the missing numbers of a number chart containing the numbers 401 - 500 to prepare her for counting with 3-digit numbers. Gracyn counted by 1's, 5's, 10's, and 100's from any given number with numbers less than 1,000 and more than 100. A unit review was also completed to prepare for the upcoming unit assessment.
Today we learned prepositions of place : up/down, left and right. We sang a song. We played with Gracyn's dolls, putting them in different places and asking questions and answering ¿Dónde está?
