In this lesson I introduced Gracyn to Window on the World, a book that brings alive the culture, traditions, and history of people groups all over the world. In addition, we read a bible story and she interacted with online games.
Gracyn and I read and discussed the next two chapters of 'The Boxcar Children'. We worked on words with -ai spelling of the long a sound and we practiced identifying proper nouns. She read a Raz story about mud races which prompted much discussion, and she completed the comprehension quiz.
Very Hungry Caterpillar and Rainbow Fish in Spanish
Lesson Outline
We viewed La Oruga Muy Hambrienta and El Pez Arco Iris in Spanish and then Gracyn began to draw a picture of the part of the stories that she liked best, which was when the Rainbow Fish gave one of her scales to each of the other fish and then played with them.
Gracyn continued the ocean life unit today with a lesson on sharks. She watched an informational shark video and read a book in Raz Kids called "Sharks". We discussed that sharks are apex predators and are at the top of the food chain. They don't have many predators, but the number one predator of sharks are humans. We talked about how sharks benefit the ecosystem and economy and how the ocean would not survive without them. She did a writiten exercise where she wrote three facts about what she learned about sharks
warm-up stretches; gymnastics practice; The yoga body book
Lesson Outline
Gracyn did a warm-up routine incorporating yoga stretches and gymnastics moves. Today she did many strengthening exercises, i.e. push-ups, back bends and planks. We also read through parts of the yoga body book. Near the end of class she used her doll to pretend she was on TV teaching children yoga/gymnastics.
Gracyn listened to some piano concertos written by Mozart for our music appreciation today. We also listened to some of her favorite music. Disney's "Trolls", "Boom-a-rang" by JoJo, "You Belong to Me" by Taylor Swift. Interesting to hear how the style of music has changed over the years.
Gracyn and I read and discussed 2 chapters of 'The Boxcar Children'. We looked for details to support or refute our previous ideas about each child's character traits. We worked on identifying syllables in words and finding comparative adjectives. She read a level K Raz book and completed the comprehension quiz.
Today in arts and crafts, Gracyn worked on online coloring pages. I would send her a link to a picture on coloring.com. Then we both colored the page online, took screen shots, and compared the colors we each used.
Gracyn continued working on geometry. She drew the shapes that I named in her notebook. Then she wrote the name and counted the sides, vertices, and angles of the shapes. Finally, we discussed the differences between 2-D and 3-D shapes and reviewed the correlating vocabulary.
