Gracyn and I began reading and discussing,'The Boxcar Children'. We focused on character traits and the way the characters are introduced in the story. She read 'The Princess and the Pea' on Raz and answered the comprehension questions correctly. She identified and wrote the lesson in the story.
This morning we read, chapter 7, "A Secret Passage" of our Magic Tree House book 2, The Knight at Dawn. Jack and Annie use their book to discover a way out of the dungeon through a secret passage. We discussed the meaning of the word "precipice" as it was used in the story. Additionally, we discussed the meaning of the phrase "tearing through the book". After reading, we completed our follow up comprehension activities. We practiced answering in complete sentences. To end our session, we had fun with a "short a" word crossword puzzle. Gracyn read the clues and used a word bank (as needed) to assist her in completing the puzzle. This included words such as apple, basket, match, and tracks.
Gracyn continued her ocean life unit today with a lesson on sharks. She read an article to me on the Great White Shark and learned that this shark has 300 teeth that grow in rows and that they eat seals and sea lions and do not like the taste of people. After the article, she answered written questions on what she read. She also began watching a video on different types of sharks.
Gracyn and I read 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs!' and talked about the persuasive tactics that the wolf used to change our perspective on the 3 little pigs. She read 'How to Drive Your Sister Crazy' for guided reading and identified details that make it a realistic fiction story. We also looked at the different text features the author used to make the story more interesting. Gracyn also worked on identifying the number of syllables in words.
Today we sang the song "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" in Spanish. Also, we read on Raz Kids : Mi Cuerpo.

Today Gracyn did not want to work as usual, while she was eating breakfast in bed she complained that she has already read so she did not have to do it again, yet I explained that she had not read in Spanish yet so we needed to learn new things and words and phrases.
design fundamentals. Using the importance of lines and shapes, Gracyn was to do a few designs to show the use of "Op" art. After drawing them out, she then would add color to show the "optical" illusion.
