Gracyn used her time today to get her gifts together to take home. She used glitter and glue to make and decorate Christmas cards for her family. Also, Gracyn very nicely wrapped the gifts, tied bows, and filled the gift bags.
Gracyn put the finishing touches on her Christmas gifts today, having to paint on a few final details. The last few weeks, Gracyn has put so much thought, creativity, and hard work into her gifts. She is very happy with her work and so excited to put them under the tree.
Gracyn and I spent most of today's session wrapping and making a card for the Christmas present she made for her parents. She was so excited to put the finishing touches on, her enthusiasm was contagious! We even learned how to make our own envelope. We did spend a short amount of time stretching and doing some basic tricks.
Gracyn read "The Duckling Gets A Cookie?!" For her independent story today. Her fluency and confidence continue to improve as we build stamina. We read "Silent Night" together, I read the text and she echoed it in song. We revised her word wall, removing the words she has mastered and the phonetically regular words. She created a list of words with the -ay spelling pattern in the word -may, which remains on her word wall. Gracyn also read a story on Raz-Kids, scoring 80% on the comprehension test.
We began our session today by reading a fun winter book, Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner, which has the snowmen sneaking off at night to participate in such fun events as sledding, racing down the hill, and even playing a baseball game! We identified the rhyming words and searched for hidden pictures on the pages. Next, Gracyn read a level one reader entitled, Merry Christmas Bugs! by David A. Carter. She did a great job with this tricky book. We talked about how the pictures help give us clues and also thinking about the topic as to what language we might find when trying to read challenging words. We also learned more about the characters by discussing their actions and how they looked in the illustrations. Finally, we ended our day with practice of the Dolch primer sight words with ZAP!
Gracyn attended the school Holiday Party today and watched "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", had hot cocoa and popcorn!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
