Gracyn and I began our class today by reviewing some of first quarter concepts by way of Studies Weekly Assessments. We looked at her textbook and Studies Weekly online to learn more about transportation, goods and services, and work, learning new vocabulary - income, producer, consumer, goods, services and capital resources. We discussed facts versus opinions and fact versus fiction. We discussed different kinds of jobs as well.
design fundamentals. Gracyn is finishing up her painting of parrots to show the use of "primary" colors. She will begin a new painting to show the use of "warm" colors.
Gracyn read "There's a Bird on My Head" as her independent book today. We went to the library and checked out new books for this week. We read a shared story with the strategy focus of determining unknown words using context clues. She continued the research for her Ocean book and made notes about shark facts she wants to include.
This morning we continued in our Magic Tree House book, chapter 7, "Ready, Set, Go!" We then worked on follow up comprehension questions, using complete sentences, proper punctuation, and handwriting techniques. We also discussed using verbs (action words) in making complete sentences. Gracyn then illustrated a picture of her favorite dinosaur that we've discussed for the cover of her packet. She chose a triceratops. We played a fun game called Cherry on Top in which we practiced using the three different sounds made by the letter y. Gracyn read the words and decided if she needed to put a y, i, or e cherry on top of the ice cream sundae based on the correct sound of how y is used in the word. Some of the words included: my, yes, cherry, baby, year, and fly.
Gracyn continued her unit on natural resources today. We have been discussing different types of natural resources and today we discussed the water cycle. She watched a Magic School Bus episode on the process of the water cycle and then drew her own diagram on how the water cycle works.
Gracyn and I had another great session today. Her cartwheels on the balance beam are really improving as are her walkovers on the floor. I can also see improvement in her flexibility. Besides working those skills, we also did landing and sticking drills from a greater height than we have in the past, she really enjoyed this. Gracyn had a lot of enthusiasm today, I enjoyed our session!
Gracyn had a fun activity today in which she went shopping for Thanksgiving dinner. She was given $25.00 of play money to use, having to spend it all and having to buy at least 6 items. Gracyn thoughtfully planned her meal, exchanging some items for more desirable items. She used addition and subtraction to complete her purchases. In the end, she was very happy with her final meal.
design fundamentals. Gracyn is currently working on a "primary" color painting of two parrots. She will continue to work on this project during our next sessions. She will then continue with her "color" theory classes.
