Our story for read-aloud was chapter 1 of "Junie B. Jones and Her Big Fat Mouth". Our book talk centered on using context clues to figure out the meaning of new words and on making predictions. Gracyn read all the words on her word wall. We added two new words, "from" and "any".
We began with "The Knuckle Song" solo as well as duet. We then moved on to "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and learned more of the song. Next we discussed C-D-E on the keyboard and transposed "Mary Had a Little Lamb" onto those keys, with fingers curved while playing on fingertips. Finally, we reviewed high and low tones, and finger numbers. Gracyn's comprehension and application are wonderful. I would love for her to have an instrument on which to practice at home. A touch-sensitive keyboard would be an excellent starter instrument.
Gracyn and I read about Christopher Columbus today in honor of Columbus Day. We made a caravel for her classroom and began a small flip book that turns into a ship like his, the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. Gracyn answered some reading comprehension questions afterwards. She earned extra credit by contributing her coloring page of Donald Trump to our election wall. She wanted to see pictures of Trump and then added kisses to his face which were supposed to be from Hillary Clinton! We discussed election day and added to illustrations in her classroom with reminders of 1492, the year Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
Gracyn worked on an indirect measurement lesson today. She compared the lengths of objects and then put them in order. Clue words such as shorter, longer, and taller were used to solve word problems. Gracyn also worked on a 10's and 1's worksheet. Number grid puzzles were completed to determine 10 more and 10 less along with 1 more and 1 less. We finished with subtraction problems on the white board which involved 10 less using numbers up to 120. The focus was on keeping the number in the ones place the same while subtracting one from the tens place.
design fundamentals. Gracyn will begin her painting of an elephant today with the theme of "circus". She will draw it out first and then begin to add colors.

good session today. Gracyn is always so eager to work on her art projects.
We began by going outside to read a book together called Max Finds an Egg by Wiley Blevins. Gracyn thought if was a very funny story. Next, we played a game of sight word bingo. Gracyn helped sound out the words and then match them to her card. Finally, she spent time on the computer working on Reading Eggs.
Gracyn and I read the book When Sophie's Feelings are Really, Really Hurt by Molly Bang. In this story, Sophie paints a picture of her favorite tree. Her feelings get hurt when she is creative, paints it blue, and the other kids make fun of her painting. Gracyn had fun painting her own creative tree, using bright colors and glitter.
Today, Gracyn and I played Roll the Dice as a fun way to practice addition and subtraction skills. We focused on using mental math and counting up strategies. Gracyn practiced writing number words which she has almost committed to memory. We also played addition and subtraction clue word match to facilitate the skills needed to successfully solve word problems.
Gracyn began today's lesson on dositey.com, matching number words to numbers to uncover a mystery picture. We moved on to a book called Mission Addition by Loreen Leedy. This book covered basic addition facts, adding numbers in the ones and tens column, adding multiple numbers together, and word problems. Gracyn listened and interacted, completing all of the problems presented in the story.
