Our story for read-aloud was "Arthur Goes to Camp" and our book talk centered on making connections to the text. Gracyn read two stories at level E on Raz-Kids with improved fluency and good accuracy. She competed quizzes for both stories with 100% accuracy. Our word work was working with the glued sounds -ing, -ang,-ong,-ung,-ink, -ank, -onk, and -unk. She also completed two activities in Reading Eggs.
Today Gracyn and I Skyped. We watched a video on cake decorating. We learned about the many different cake decorating techniques and when to use them. We learned how to make a rose using two different colors of frosting. The cake was beautifully decorated when it was finished.
Today Gracyn continued her lesson on the planets and the solar system. She watched an episode of the Magic School Bus called, "Lost in Space" which reinforced what she has been learning about the solar system. After the video, she answered comprehension questions about what she watched. She also began the next lesson on Earth's resources. She learned the definition of a natural resource and some examples of natural resources such as air, water, plants, and animals.
Gracyn and I skyped together this morning. We worked on how objects are ordered by length, lesson 9.1. Gracyn looked around her kitchen to find objects that were shorter than or longer than the given object. She also watched a Sid the Science Kid video on measurement for kids. Next, Gracyn completed a few word problems. We focused on the vocabulary in order to know the operation needed to solve the problem. Finally, she practiced writing number words and the concept of 10 more and 10 less.
We began our session by reviewing finger numbers, high and low tones and middle C. We then did some ear training, with Gracyn identifying tone direction on the keyboard. We then covered dynamics, and Gracyn learned many new dynamic signs and terms. We also played "musical follow the leader," with Gracyn echoing what I played by accurately clapping the rhythms. She picks up a beat very well. Lastly we reviewed "The Knuckle Song" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
We started off using the yoga cards and doing the poses on the selected cards. We also did 3 variations of half moon pose and triangle pose. Active movements included sit-ups, push-ups and mountain/volcano jumps. Gracyn practiced her shoulder stand pose and inverted turtle.
I skyped with Gracyn today in St. Louis. We reviewed for Quiz and read in her textbook "About My Community". We read about symbols, the national anthem, the Constitution and patriotism. We talked about the two States of the week - Delaware and Connecticut - and their capital cities. We read "Tulip Sees America" in her textbook. We learned about water and landforms and described different parts of the country along with Tulip. Gracyn took the Quiz and we discussed any questions she answered incorrectly. Finally, we learned about natural resources and Gracyn understood, being able to identify things we make with different natural resources.
