LED hula hooping; "bird yoga poses." Play-doh yoga figures
Lesson Outline
Today I brought in my LED hula hoop and we turned out the lights and did lighted hooping. Our yoga lesson was bird poses: pigeon, flamingo, peacock, crane, swan, and others. We practiced all the poses. To get some ideas we looked at our ABC yoga book. After our active yoga, Gracyn requested that we do Play-doh figures. She picked out the tree pose and Warrior 3 for her yoga figures.
Gracyn and I accomplished a lot of things today! We went through her beam routine a few more times and she got to show it off to a small audience! We also practiced many of her tricks and skills. We had time to dance and move to some of her favorite songs. I will miss our weekly sessions!
Gracyn continued with her standardized testing today. She completed the reading section. She worked very hard! She also started the math section and we finished up to page 50. We started working on some cute kindergarten graduation surprises!
Today we focused on Itsy Bitsy Yoga movements with my doll and talked about the benefits of yoga to all ages. Gracyn enjoyed playing "mommy" to the baby and doing yoga with her. Then Gracyn designed a "workout" routine for us, using the gymnastics ladder. We also practiced bridge pose using the yoga blocks.
We began our lesson with a quick recap about food from Gracyn's previous unit. Then, we began her new unit on clothing. She colored her new clothing poster for her classroom. Last, we practiced her new words.
Today Gracyn began her Standard Achievement test. I was so proud of how well she is doing. She is using her decoding skills to break apart unknown words to answer the questions being asked. We got up to page 32 today. After her test I gave her free time in the computer room and in the art room to rest her brain!
Today Gracyn learned about traditional Irish dance music and what instruments are used namely the accordion, the fiddle, and the guitar. We learned about the harp, and how this instrument has become the national Irish symbol, like our national symbol is the eagle. We learned about traditional Irish dance and how the rhythms of the dancing becomes part of the music. Gracyn played through her solo pieces and worked towards dexterity and independence between left hand and right hand. Have a happy spring break!
