30.4 The Excretory system – We learned what each organ of excretion produces. Then we looked at other organs that are involved in excretion. We compared chemical and mechanical digestion. Then we graphed concentrations of substances in our urine.
Assignment: Complete Packet A Lesson 30.4.
30.3 The Digestive System – We learned the role of the mouth, esophagus, small intestine, and large intestine in digestion. We investigated the structure of the small intestine and how it’s folded surface and fingerlike projections provide an enormous surface area for absorption of nutrient molecules. We discovered how nutrients are absorbed and wastes eliminated.
Assignment: Complete Packet A Lesson 30.3.
30.4 The Excretory system – We learned how our human body gets rid of wastes. We discovered how the kidneys maintain homeostasis by cleansing our blood. We learned how the organs of excretion operate.
Assignment: Work on Packet A Lesson 30.4.
30.2 Food and Nutrition – We learned the definition and importance of a balanced diet. Then we learned the sources of minerals and their function in our bodies. We read several food labels to determine serving size and nutrition information.
Assignment: List seven types of information you can learn about a food from its food label. List reasons why the government should and should not play a role in solving America’s obesity problem.
30.3 The Digestive System – We learned about the organs of the digestive system and their functions. We learned the difference between mechanical and chemical digestion. We discovered that digestion is primarily a chemical process and the gastric secretions consist mostly of hydrochloric acid.
Assignment: Work on Packet A Lesson 30.3.
30.2 Food and Nutrition – We learned the function of fats, proteins, and vitamins in the body. Then we learned the food source for each nutrient. We learned how vitamins were named and the health hazards of dietary supplements. Next, we learned how these nutrients help maintain homeostasis in our bodies.
Assignment: Complete Packet A Lesson 30.2.
30.2 Food and Nutrition – We learned how food provides the essential nutrients our bodies need. We learned the function of water, carbohydrates, and fats in our bodies. We learned the foods where these nutrients are found. Next, we learned that populations with high-fiber diets have been found to have lower rates of colon cancer than populations with low-fiber diets. Then we learned that populations with high-fiber and low-fat diets have very low colon cancer rates.
Assignment: Work on Packet A Lesson 30.2.
30.1 Organization of the Human Body – We learned that cells are specialized, such as in the bones, blood, and muscles. These cells are uniquely suited to perform a particular function. Then we discovered there are four basic types of tissue in the human body.
Which organ may not contain all four types of tissue? The brain.
Assignment: Complete Packet A Lesson 30.1.
30.1 Organization of the Human Body – We learned about how the materials that go into your body and the materials that come from your body are related to homeostasis. We discovered that the human body is complex due to having many interconnected parts that are related to one another.
Assignment: Work on Packet A Lesson 30.1.
