Lesson Outline
Today, Sam worked on her Florida Virtual School. We reviewed what a business letter is and what it looks like. Then, we finished reading the story, "King in the Kitchen". Last, she attended a live lesson which covered "netiquite" manners, fractions, and life science. She did not complete the lesson because it ran into the lunch hour.

Colors
Lesson Outline
Today, we finished the second part of Sam's colors board game. Then, we played the game. This is a great activity for Sam because it reinforces her vocabulary orally. She is also very invested because she put her own "Newsies"/ "Wicked"/ "Aladdin" twist on it! Very creative!

Florida's Economy, Major Industries
Lesson Outline
Samantha and I completed today's Florida Virtual School lesson on Florida's Economy and Major Industries. We learned that there are five major industries - services, agriculture, mining, fishing, and manufacturing. We completed the graphic organizer, looked at Millie's business plan, and took the assessment at the end of the lesson.

Climate and Weather
Lesson Outline
Sam and I worked towards completing her FLVS science lesson on weather and climate. We accomplished the majority of the lesson (the mini movie, the reading, the science journal work) but did not finish the lesson review before she took the assessment. Sam and I talked about the importance of finishing the entire lesson before taking the assessment so that she could do her very best and allow the assessment to reflect her hard work! Sam was attentive and enthusiastic during the majority of the lesson. We also put cups of water in the freezer so that on Thursday we will have ice to complete a lab from a previous weather lesson. Sam is excited to do the lab.

Lesson Comments
I enjoy working with Sam although it is a challenge to keep her focused and on task. I felt we did a pretty good job working together today to do her lesson and she stayed focused almost the entire time. However, while I was attempting to orally finish the lesson review with her, she took the lesson assessment. She had her tablet facing away from me and I did not realize that's what she was doing. Because we had not yet finished the lesson, she only scored 33% on the assessment. I talked to Sam about how important it is to always finish the entire lesson first before taking the assessment so that the assessment can accurately show how hard she worked during the lesson. I think she actually learned and retained much more from the lesson than the 33% showed. Also, even with Sam on task every minute of the 60 minutes (which so far has been a bit of a challenge), it would be hard to complete the entire lesson (including the science journal work they request for each lesson) in one session. Is this the expectation? Perhaps some lessons could be accomplished in one session but from the one we worked through today, two sessions would be preferable to maximize her understanding and retention. Is this an option? I am not familiar enough with FLVS to know what the daily expectations are for science to ensure completion of the course. Thanks!

Seeker of Knowledge/personal pronouns
Lesson Outline
The first 15 minutes the computer would not let Sam into Virtual School so we had to shut it down and start it again. Then it had to do updates. We were then left with 45 minutes to work on this lesson. She watched the video on personal pronouns, started to read the story "Seeker of Knowledge" and completed page 159 in the grammar book.
