Writing a business letter
Lesson Outline
I briefly got to know Sam. She already had an idea in mind for her business letter she needed to complete for her FLVS language arts class. She was writing to Lego Headquarters to introduce the idea of a musical line of Legos. She was very excited about this idea! We brainstormed ideas on why these Legos would be a success and figured out how to appropriately put the information into a business letter. We talked about the importance of sounding professional when writing a business letter. We successfully attached and submitted her business letter to complete the assignment.

The session began with a review of the closed syllable concept. A discussion about syllable division came next. The word cards from step 3.1 and 3.2 were read by Samantha. She fluently read the real words and did a better job today reading the nonsense words. She charted several real words from step 3.2 and did a great job reading these words. She only missed one! Excellent reading, Samantha.

The discussion by the instructor also included vocabulary words associated with this concept. Samantha does not have immediate recall of basic multiplication facts. Lesson Comments
Judie, I know you are STRESSED! But, first of all Samantha did not want to work this morning. Secondly, and this is the part that bothers me, she said that she completed the Florida Virtual School session for today with Betsy and passed the test for this session. When I left her at the end of class time, she did not seem to grasp the factoring of numerators and denominators. Did Betsy continue to work with her on this? I asked her about the remainder of the class work she was to complete and she said she did not do it. What the heck is going on? Am I being snowed by her with regard to her understanding of the work? Please help me understand what in the world is going on. She was so angry when I came in for her Wilson lesson that she wouldn't speak to me for a while. She eventually stated that her father wouldn't let her have baking and sewing an other electives, so I got the brunt of that tantrum.

"mind Jar" project for calming and settling thoughts
Lesson Outline
We made "Mind Jars" today following up on the idea in the book "Moody Cow Meditates." We took water and added glycerin, then sparkle pieces and glitter. Sprinkles are angry, fearful, or frustrating thoughts and situations. We drop them into the jar, shake and watch quietly as the sparkles settle. And then our mind settles and calms. After the project we did some active movements in the dojo, i.e. jump roping and jumping jacks, and checked our heart rate (preview of February heart month). We practiced dancer pose (balancing and strength). During the last part of class, we used the yoga cards to pick out poses and yoga games to do.
