Samantha was tested on the different classes that fall under the phylum chordate. She was asked if a ‘newsie’ were a fish, what characteristics would it have. When she had completed the list of characteristics, she was awarded an illustration of a ‘newsie fish’, to paste onto her poster. She continued this process until all classes had a ‘newsie’ character on the poster. As she added color to her new illustrations, she was asked questions about classification and animals in general.
Sam's focus today was paragraph writing. We reread the rubric and looked at exemplary work, then she created her own typed paragraph on Newsies. Then, she helped me score her paragraph going line by line rubric against writing piece, so she would be totally clear of her 25.5/40 and why that was earned. (None of the scoring focuses on spelling.) From that paragraph her outlook for writing instruction was created. We will work on organization, complex sentences, and proper use of commas.
Sam is enjoying a school-wide activity today for the holiday. In the meantime, I just added her to two great online programs that she can practice over the break (in addition to her vocab words listed in Quizlet).

Today, Sam finished notes on family words. Next, We discussed the words in Spanish for possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, etc). Last, Sam played a scatter game on Quizlet.com to practice her family words.
Our lesson today was Itsy Bitsy Yoga. I demonstrated many of the movements with my yoga doll. We talked about the benefits to babies, toddlers and adults and how they are similar. We then did "6 holiday yoga poses for calming" which focused on breathing and stretches. The last part of class we continued making our yoga puffy paint ornaments, as Sam requested that we do more of these. She was very creative and artistic with this project.
Samantha had a review of step 2 words today. She and the instructor played a game of go fish using nonsense words. This gave Samantha great practice reading unfamiliar "words." Upon completion of the game Samantha worked on adding blends to word parts to form real words.
The session began with a game of multiplication war. Samantha is quite good with her facts and likes to win! Next, she solved word problems from the text. For the final part of the lesson, word problems with either too much information or not enough information were solved by Samantha. With each problem that was read, Samantha had to decide if there was enough information to solve the problem and then solve it and identify any unnecessary information in the problem.
