Samantha began the session with a game of multiplication war with the instructor. She does an outstanding job with this game! Today, she was mentally multiplying two digit numbers, such as 19 x 12 or 16 x 13. Every time she had factors similar to these she would mentally calculate the correct product. For the remainder of the session we worked on word problems.
The session began with the reading of a story to Samantha. Next Samantha practiced spelling some selected words using the magnetic tiles. She fluently read the word cards from step 2. For charting Samantha read 15/15 words correctly.
Today we will explore more about Florida Flora and Fauna and issues related to conservation. Today was the day of the Winter Recital and a birthday party, so we were unable to complete the lesson. I organized Sam's room, which had gotten away from her.
In an effort to push Sam into writing more and having confidence, she is working on a script for an adaptation of Newsies for a school play. We also continued working on enhancing her writing by scoring a well-written paragraph using a rubric. Using sentence frames, paragraph frames, and rubrics to score writing will be the beginning of our quest to help her become more comfortable and happy with writing.
She has undone homework with examples and sentence frames in her binder.
Today Sam and I separated the Friendship bread batter into individual bags and printed out the directions on how to make it. She then decided on who to give them to. We then mixed the last cup of batter we had into two delicious loaves of bread.
Two & Three digit Multiplication and Problem Solving

The session began with the instructor reading part of a story to Samantha. Next the instructor had Samantha do some mental math. Some true/false statements were read and Samantha had to decide if each one was true or false and explain her answer. For the final part of the lesson Samantha was asked to solve some three digit multiplication problems on the white board.
The session today involved playing a game with letter cubes. Samantha had to use the letter cubes to create her own crossword puzzle. After creating the puzzle Samantha read the words she made. The instructor also made crossword puzzles with cubes. For the final part of the session the instructor read part of a story to Samantha. Samantha was tasked with labeling her poster with the names of the different classes of the phylum Chordate. After labeling each, she used puffy paint to highlight each, as we discussed the characteristics that make them unique. We watched video of representative animals for the Aves, Reptile, and Amphibian groups, to explore if each group is warm or cold blooded. We also investigated which lays eggs, uses gills or lungs, and/or has scales.
