Samantha began the session with a brief game. She said she just wanted to get on with the lesson. Today Samantha completed the Unit 8 Test. She did a very good job. She has learned a new method of multiplication, which she used on this test. She was quite sick today, sneezing and coughing a lot.

Science:
The circulatory system -
Samantha and I discussed the circulatory system. This is the system that moves blood through the body. We then examined blood, using a microscope. Samantha was intrigued with the microscope, so we also examined plant and animal cells for comparison. I described what it was like before we had invented the microscope and the things we now can learn about because we can look at very small things. We examined a mosquito proboscis, and a bee wing under the microscope, as I instructed the proper way to use the fine and course adjustment dials.
Today, we made further progress on the questions for the board game and covered 2 new chapters of Studies Weekly in our quest for questions that are logical and important to know about FL history

Lesson Comments
Sam wasn't feeling well today and said she felt better outside, so we mostly worked outside. Sam is able to concentrate while in motion, so she listened to the lesson and was able to generate questions and produce answers --even from earlier classes and earlier in this class-- while on the jungle gym. Her kinesthetic learning style was well served by being outside and active.
Musical solos today included songs from Aladdin and Matilda. She also chose songs from Beauty and the Beast. I'm learning that she loves upbeat and energetic songs. Much like her spritely personality!
Today Sam brought a Wilton Cake Decorating kit to school. Sam mixed up some butter cream frosting and separated it into 4 different bowls. She then added a different color of food coloring to each bowl. She then filled pastry bags and made some beautiful decorations.
Today's session was spent reviewing step two words. Samantha and the instructor played go fish, memory, and tic tac word for the review. She fluently read all of the words that were used in these games.
The lesson began with a game of multiplication war. The game led to a discussion of the various ways to multiply two digit by two digit numbers and mental math strategies. Samantha worked on some word problems and multiplying by zeros.
Today Samantha read 2 stories about 4 different Greek Gods/Goddesses... We then discussed the characters and something about their relationships to each other in Mythology. Near the end of class she read a book to one of the girls in kindergarten.
Today Sam requested they we go outside for class, as the weather cleared up. We went out back and did some balancing yoga poses (dancer, tree, crane, airplane), individual and "partner yoga." We also did some hooping.
Samantha began the session with a multiplication warm-up game. She completed her unit 7 test and did a great job on it. She was shown an alternative method for solving two digit multiplication algorithms. The final part of the session was spent practicing reading large numbers. We will work on this concept in future sessions.
