Lesson Outline
Moving Continents – Max learned that a scientist named Alfred Wegener investigated whether Earth’s continents had always been in the same place or if they had moved. He proposed that all continents were once part of a supercontinent called Pangaea and over time the Pangaea broke apart and pieces drifted to the their present locations. He proposed the continental drift hypothesis suggesting that the continents are in constant motion on the surface of the Earth. Then we discussed Wegener’s evidence to support his hypothesis and learned that he was missing the forces that caused the continents to move. Max learned that when scientists were able to map the ocean floor they discovered the evidence to support continental drift.
Assignment: We played a game to test Max’s knowledge of planets, comets, and meteors. We also explored aspects of stars and moons.
