Max and I finished reading ”A Series of Unfortunate Events; The Carnivorous Carnival” by Lemony Snicket! He then completed a pre-write ,a draft and the final book report!!!!!
We also reviewed the list of unfamiliar words. Lastly, today we were successful in catching lizards. A good day...
Max shared information with me about lizards. He has amassed quite a good deal of information based on prior experience owning and catching them . He was equipped with a net and container and we went outside in search of lizards. However, as the temperature dipped into the 50's, there were none to be found as they are cold-blooded and prefer warm temperatures. We finished our time together discussing materials that are toxic to lizards (some metals and plants), and Max seemed interested to learn about certain items that should not be in their habitats.

Lesson Comments
I had Max for 30 minutes today, Thursday, 12/19/19. He wanted to stay to try to catch lizards.
Max and I continued reading ”A Series of Unfortunate Events; The Carnivorous Carnival”” by Lemony Snicket. His school assignment is to complete the novel and write a book report. We read pages 210-255 today, looking up and making a list of unfamiliar words. We had several conversations about the events in the story and are making a list of figurative language used in the book.
We also spent 30 minutes looking for lizards but realized it's just too cold for them to be out.
Max had work from his school. Several of the problems had him use conversion factors. I showed him how to work out a process called "factor labeling", which had him write relationships between different units of measurement in order to cancel one unit to get to another. For example, if a teaspoon holds 5 ml, how many spoonfuls are in a 2 liter cup? I showed him the process to convert the units, although it was a little confusing for him to understand. He did a good job of listening!
Max and I worked on fraction, decimal, and money conversions. Then we worked on converting between units of length and volume in the metric system. We practiced the 4 operations on decimals and working with powers of ten to move the decimal place.

We read pages 180 - 210 today, looking up and making a list of unfamiliar words. We had several conversations about the events in the story and are making a list of figurative language used in the book.
Math- He continued to work on the math material sent from his school.
Max had two pictures of triangles with exterior angle measurements given. Two sides of the triangles were congruent. I taught Max that if 2 sides of a triangle are congruent, then the angles opposite those sides are also congruent. We used the rule of supplementary angles to find one of the interior angles of the triangle. Supplementary angles add to 180 degrees. We then set up equations to find the missing interior angle, given that the 3 angles of a triangle add to 180 degrees. Max did well with this!
