Today, Max worked on parts A and B from section 1 of test 3. Questions related to multiplying and dividing by multiples of 10, ordering fractions, using all operations with whole numbers, decimals and fractions, converting lengths, rounding, time, and patterns were all touched upon.
Max was given a blank canvas and was asked to come up with a scene that he would like to create. He chose a beach, waves, and a surfer. I found some reference images to make sure that we were getting his correct vision. We began with laying down a yellow-orange and blended it into a light-blue. This technique allowed us to create a horizon. Max was tasked with using the same technique to create the sun and trees. I stepped in when he had any issues getting the look that he was trying to achieve. I also made him aware of light source (the sun) and how it would affect his trees and water. We were able to make the adjustments and add more realism to his painting. He painted in the wave, I drew in the surfer and he painted the surfer.
We reviewed Max's narrative writing and discussed where the story was going to go from there, the sequencing, the problem and resolution and the conclusion. We worked on transitions and coherence as Max added to his narrative.
Max asked to start with the Word game that we have been playing in the previous lessons. He is getting better and better in it! Wonderful!
Watching another cartoon with the word play: "Babushka udava". It's very funny, Max really liked it, and we discussed things that he wasn't sure about, which brings his understanding of figurative meanings to a higher level.
Discussing funny and little known facts about lizards (in Russian, of course), and Max really surprised me of how much he knows about this subject! (I prepared the facts and questions).
We continued discussing other subjects (TV programs, digital addictions, school, etc.).
Very productive multi-themed lesson...

It's been such a joy and privilege to be spending these hours with Max!
He is learning very fast when subjects and topics are interesting for him
And since a language can be learned and taught from so many perspectives, we made it fun and very productive by making sure that Max is interested in everything we have done.
It's very sad that it's our last lesson for now.
Wishing Max tons of success, and looking forward to seeing him when he is back here!
We are watching cartoons with word play in Russian (38 popugaev).
We are discussing the how funny the literal meaning of the words can be when it's supposed to be understood figuratively.
Reading a little: Max has a hard time reading in Russian, so we are trying to do it little by little so he will not get tired and uninterested.
Max is showing me new lizards, and we talk more about them. He is using pretty extensive vocabulary which is fantastic, and using the words that we added from the day before!
We have been playing the Word game that Max really enjoyed the first time we were together, and he is getting so much better at it!
Great progress, and a lot of fun...!

Lesson was very productive, and we had a lot of fun.
By changing activities and topics we made 2 hours fly by pretty fast.
In today’s lesson, Max continued writing his narrative, applying plot, imagery, characterization, dialogue, and foreshadowing. The focus was to apply these cohesively to build one main idea/ central theme.
Max continued painting his Mario sculpture, beginning with giving the face a second coat of paint. As the face was drying, I helped Max create a cube that would be used as part of the base for his sculpture. He and I placed the cube into the oven and let it bake for 20 minutes. The cube was pulled out and allowed to cool. Max added the remaining coats of paint and completed all touch up. Max painted the cube, and added a question mark sign in white. Max was given time to check the sculpture and make any needed touch ups.
