During today's Chemistry classes, we continued working on Section 5.2. We worked on locating and naming the four blocks of the periodic table and explained the reasons for these names. We also discussed the relationship between group configurations and group numbers.
In today's class, we continued our discussion on naming compounds, specifically molecular compounds. Andrew learned the rules for how to name them and obtain their formula. We did plenty of practice problems and Andrew did very well answering them.
Read 3 passages on the Periodic Table of Elements. Aiden labeled the parts of an Element using the words: Chemical symbol, Atomic number, Atomic Mass, and Name of Elements. Aiden then determined which elements share the same characteristics and colored them to distinguish them from others in the Periodic Table. Aiden then answered his guided questions about the elements on the Periodic table, I helped him with some as needed. Finally, he answered 4 out of 7 of his independent practice problems by himself.
During today's Chemistry class, we continued working on Section 5.2 "Electron Configuration and the Periodic Table". We described the relationship between electrons in sublevels and the length of each period of the periodic table.
In today's class, Andrew practiced memorizing his list of polyatomic ions. He used the flash cards he made the other day and went through each one in an attempt to remember each. Andrew did very well at memorizing and reciting his ions.
In today's class, we continued our discussion on naming compounds, specifically acids. Andrew learned the different rules for naming acids and we did plenty of practice problems on which Andrew did very well.

I had to go to a conference mid-class so Dr. Pat took over for me while I was gone. Other than that, great class with Andrew.
In today's class, we would have discussed how we name acids in chemistry. This includes learning all the rules and ways on how to take a compound and appropriately name it. Andrew would have done practice problems to enforce the concept.

Andrew was absent today. We will pick up where we left off on Monday when he is hopefully back.
During today's Chemistry class, we worked on section 1. We explained the roles of Mendeleev and Moseley in the development of the periodic table. Described the modern periodic table, explained how the periodic law can be used to predict the physical and chemical properties of elements, and described how the elements belonging to a group of the periodic table are interrelated in terms of atomic number.
