Aiden watched the Animation "Natural Selection" to learn about how giraffes got their long necks, and he used the PhET Interactive Simulation "Natural Selection" to manipulate rabbit fur color, tooth size, ear height and limiting environmental factors to see how variations within the rabbit population responded. He read the scientific text "Natural Selection" by Charles Darwin, and he read the text "Peter and Rosemary Grant" which discussed the naturalists' work with the finch populations on the Galapagos Islands.
Colson reviewed the rock cycle, uplift, subsidence and rift zones. He labeled uplift and subsidence on a diagram. He read the text "Cliff Dwellings" which explains that Native Americans used rock materials to create homes on the sides of cliffs. He reviewed the lesson material and completed the Visual Summary.
Teddy completed his interactive calendar, read and discussed his vocabulary words, finished his calendar talk activity, put together his daily sentence puzzle, worked on his phonics activities, checked on his rain puddle and rain gauge, made a barometer and a barometer log to keep track of his weather predictions.

I no longer have the twins at the same time. I have Teddy at 10:34 and Libby at 9:00.
Libby completed her interactive calendar, read and discussed her vocabulary words, finished her calendar talk activity, put together her daily sentence puzzle, checked on her rain puddle and rain gauge, and made a barometer and a barometer log to keep track of the weather predictions.
Aiden learned about Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. He read about the voyage of the HMS Beagle to the Galapagos Islands. He examined figures illustrating how the different climates of the different islands of the Galapagos spurred the evolution of Galapagos tortoises with different adaptations. He watched a video on scientists Peter and Rosemary Grant and their work with Galapagos finches.
Teddy completed his interactive calendar, read and discussed his vocabulary words, helped with the science station, put together his daily sentence puzzle, finished his calendar talk, and made a rain gauge.
Aiden completed the lab "Population Variation" where he recorded size and coloration data on 10 sunflower seeds to observe population variation. He read about population variation, and we discussed population variation in giraffe spots. He brainstormed why a bee orchid would look like a bee. We discussed mimicry and adaptations.

Lesson Outline
Libby completed her interactive calendar, read and discussed her vocabulary words, finished her calendar talk, helped put together the science station, and made a rain gauge.
Colson learned about the rock cycle. He examined a diagram showing how igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks cycle from one rock type to another. He wrote a paragraph explaining how an igneous rock changes into a sedimentary rock.
