Lesson Outline
Loulie did a lesson on animal classification today. She learned about mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish and what makes each different. She did a scavenger hunt around the room and found pictures of different animals and had to put them under the correct classification. Valentines Theme
Lesson Outline
Louilie and I went over the routine of the alphabet (sing the alphabet song), months of the years, days of the week, and today’s date, & weather.
We practiced the alphabet with a play dynamic that gave us a chance to practice with sounds and also practice with basic Spanish opposites. (up&down - left&right etc...)

We developed a craft around the upcoming Valentine,s Day, by cutting, painting and gluing a heart shaped textured material. This activity invited Louilie to experiment with primary colors and turning them into desired secondary colors of her choosing. We practiced and read a book named "In My Heart" by Jo Witek, and practiced the writing skill of basic words that began with the letter C (such as Corazon, Casa, Carro and emphasized appropriate pronunciation.

living and non living things
Lesson Outline
Loulie began a new lesson on living and nonliving things today. We discussed how a living thing grows and changes, and how a nonliving thing does not. We went around the room and picked out living things and nonliving things. I gave her some pictures and she had to go through them and decide if they were living and nonliving and glue them under the correct columns. We went outside and walked around to find a few living things and a few nonliving things to put in a book. She found a shell, and dime, and a rock for the nonliving page, and a leaf, and acorn, and a flower for the living things. She glued them on construction paper to make a book. We also discussed animals and how some animals have fur, some have scales, and some have feathers. We talked about how birds have feathers and talked about different types of birds. She told me how she and her mom found and injured bird and took it to the hospital to save it. We made a bird feeder from a pinecone and bird seed, and hung it up outside.

Loulie and I were treated to a guest reader, Gracyn, who read 'Pigeon Needs a Bath'. Loulie was enchanted with Gracyn's reading and Gracyn felt success as a reader/teacher. I sat back and observed their book talk...priceless! Tough act to follow, but we continued our lesson with a repeat reading of 'Little Bo Peep' and a sorting activity for the sounds of 'l' and 'p'. For number work we played a card game that involved finding matching numbers in sets of 6. I sang our Alligator alphabet song while Loulie finished her snack and then we read 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. This was a familiar book so she was able to chime in on parts she knew.
